I rely on Windows Media Player 9x only for everything including videos. With the right codecs installed, Media Player is awesome

I avoid MS Real Media One at all costs & QuickTimes since it became Itunes.

I use WMP most of the time and like Ukbob a host of others if it suits my needs.

Default music players for newbies

(1) realplayer, easy to use: good for organizing, listening or ripping, and burning. i organize all music here.
(2) windows media player, fairly easy: not so easy to import, great for submitting compilations, or obscure albums. excellent mini-player. my listening player.
(3) rhapsody, easy to use: doesn't hold on to files if you move them around, easy to listen or burn. i listen to D L here.
(4-5) I-Tunes & Nero, don't use either yet, but i'm trying.

Do you find the Nero player difficult to use?

I use for audio: iTunes & Audion.
Video: VLC & at times QuickTime Pro.
Audio Streaming: Both VLC & iTunes.
Video " " : Depends on format. It might include wmp, vlc, rp, qt, etc.

Again, I may use a range of players for different purposes, including some not mentioned here. eg: mplayer, wire tap, audio hijack, etc.
blah blah & converters or go-betweens.

For windows: dBpowerAMP, WinAmp, Quintessential all have their merits!!! QCD being open source which is a major plus & should be supported. LW is open source remember, as is vlc, mplayer, audacity, etc.

Quicktime alternative for video, haven't come across a file I couldn't play with it yet.
QCD or WMP For audio

Default nero

cyber.
nero was originally installed for doing videos, so i haven't really looked in it to see how it works. don't guess it's for newbies like me tho. my secondary "guru" put it in, she's not here to use it or show me how.

what i do use out of it is the nero cover design. that part i do like. i make alot of my own compilations, hence the need for covers.

a friend just got an ipod, since i have the music i put it in my comp. now i'm learning about the i-tunes. i got the music in, and have been listening to her ipod.
