There is no lifetime membership with the official LW. I'd recommend cancelling the transaction thru your card company asap. The real LW can be obtained here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

I think you should see this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1

Where did you get it from? Can you find it here: Known Scam Sites

I would recommend you try out the FREE version 1st. If you like it, then consider getting LW Pro.

BTW Video codecs can be obtained for FREE. See CODECs list and alternate players for Movies So in other words you've been badly scammed. :(

oh no

I clicked on winmx and downloaded from there the email i got was from support@mp3dollar.com. I am trying to get through to my bank now to see how much they have scammed of me! I have never used my credit card online before for that reason and I dont think i will ever use it again....as there is no way to advoid this from happening. Thanks for your help.

Fully check out the site before using your card online. Try to ensure you are purchasing from the "official" site of whatever it is you're after. It means some homework-research but it means protection & confidence for yourself. ukbobboy01 is probably a good person to ask about safety measures you should go through. It might be worth sending him a pm for advice. I too am reluctant to use my card online. Good luck with cancelling the transaction. At least in our country there are departments within the banks/credit co. that deal with these types of issues. So specify to them that it was a "scam"!
I reiterate, stick to the free version for now to ensure you can use it successfully & like using it. The differences between the free or basic version & pro are only subtle.

How to Shop Online.

Hi Kayllene

Sorry for your bad experience but you should not let that put you off from shopping online, I get most of what I own from shopping on the internet, e.g. weekly groceries, CDs, DVDs, books, furniture, computer peripherals, household goods and the list goes on.

However, I do take certain precautions before I deal with a company for the first time; for example, I insure that my first order is a small one - no more than £5.00 (that is less than $10.00). If they deliver as promised then I know the company can be trusted but if they do not deliver then I have not lost much.

If I want a bigger item, like a DVD player, I talk to the company and ask questions about the product, i.e. specifications, is stock available, delivery times, etc. Again, if they know what they are talking about, based on my research about the actual product, then they get my business. If, however, they do not seem to know much or are evasive then they get nothing.

Always buy using a credit card, not your bank account, because most cards have an anti-fraud facility and guarantee the item you buy if it is over a certain amount, in the UK it's £100.00.

In addition, in the UK, there is a consumer company called "Which" that looks into and reviews consumer products. "Which" guarantees that any internet company that carries its logo is an ethical company. I would imagine that there must be an equivalent company in the US (as well as Australia and Canada). So look out for internet companies that are sanctioned by your equivalent of "Which".

Most big high street companies/stores have internet sites; they are usually safe to place orders with, along with big internet only companies like Amazon.com.

Finally, do not get tricked into buying something that is labelled as “free” because if it is truly free then they will not want your credit card or payment details.

Kayllene, there is no substitute for common sense, remember to keep your wits about you and if you see something that seems too good to be true then it probably is, leave it alone.

re scam

I Think I was lucky this time as they only got the $52.00 out of my credit card. I did ring the fraud department and report it and cancelled my credit card.. I have learnt a very good lesson. And yes next time do my home work instead of diving straight in.I would love to say it wont happen again if I spend the time to do the research and check the origianal sites out instead of going like a bull at the gate! Thanks guys for all your help and advice very much appeciated kayllene
