I have adaware and spybot already and am also running Norton 2005, could anything get thru that?
What would happen if I uninstalled L/W (am running pro version), could I then reinstall, It has been on this pc for about 18/24 months.

(lord of the rings if you are there - how did you sort your mac out?)

Very good idea. Don't worry we don't bite! Not unless you bite us 1st lol

Which version of LW are you using? You can find it by going to the LW menu bar, Help>About LW ...

On the mac I discovered it by dropping the downld folder into Roxio Toast. Toast will show invisible/hidden files also. As will the OS search engine & another 3rd party program. I was able to make them visible by undoing their method of making themselves invisible!

Another mod mentioned they'd heard of this problem before so we'll see if we can find the thread & the solution.

* A quick look & I did come across this one: Beware Of This Virus!!!

* In fact a search over recent months, re: Hidden files; all refer to viruses. Another: LW slows down whole computer

* http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/Forums...pic/t=983.html (thanks for the link KathW) This is a great forum site!!! It includes solutions also.

* It might also be worth seeing: WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

Hi Guys, Well I dont quite know whats happened now but...... I ran spybot and adaware and Panda and Norton, and got rid of whatever was detected, I also did a sytem restore and went back about a month....... after restarting, I opened up limewire and was prompted to enter preferences as if it was the first time I had used it (even though I did not uninstall and limewire has been installed for about 2 years!), anyway - my library remained the same approx sharing 700 files when only 80 approx are in my shared folder!!!
After reading other threads I tried searching for this fake uploads folder but couldn't find anything?!
I upgraded limewire to 4.9.23 - and decided to forget about the hidden files for a while, so I did some searching and was getting about 20 results per search which I know is rubbish.......
Then the strangest thing started happening...... Limewire kept disconnecting itself................. and still does................ what the heck has happened............. what have I done...........??
I would really appreciate someone coming to my house and fixing this for me!
failing that - any help here would be great........................

Probably what happened is when you did system restore it put the virus back in. You need to start all over with your virus scans and get rid of it again. If you find viruses I see you are running Norton go to the virus definitions page it will tell you if you need to do anything special to get rid of the virus follow there instructions. Get rid of your restore points they are protected files and can not be scanned for viruses. Once you are sure your system is clean turn system restore back on and establish a new restore point. If you have to go into your registry be careful because you will have no restore point. It is best to print out the removal instructions that Norton gives you.
