Default My iPod missing tunes from iTunes library

Sorry if this has already been covered, but... My iTunes music library, which is MP3-encoded (not AAC) is missing 43 tunes I downloaded from Limewire. Perhaps the tunes weren't MP3s, though I'm usually careful to check they are. Is there an easy way to check all my iTunes libary is MP3s, or is there some other solution to restore the missing 43 tunes? Any help appreciated.
Brendan

Are you using windows or mac?

To check whether all songs are mp3, go to edit view options & choose to show 'Kind' & that will show a column in the main library which will show whether they are mp3, or whatever.

What do you mean iTunes Music Lib. is missing songs? Do you mean the songs are on your iPod but not in your iTunes library? Remember to select Library at the top of the playlists to show the entire library listings & not just a playlist listing.

Oh Only a Hobo beat me to it!

Actually I was of the impression iTunes for windows did import wma. But I could be wrong.
* Late Edit: See under WMA listing here: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthr...threadid=38962

Re your question " Is there an easy way to check all my iTunes libary is MP3s" Right/control click on the title bar immediately above your tunes in iTunes and tick "kind" This will tell if you have mp3s m4as etc

Certain file types and 99% of proper Albumwraps will not automatically load into iTunes. You will need to go to your download folder and see if these files are there. If they are WMA for instance they will not open in iTunes but can be converted to mp3.. ask if you need more help on that. If there are mp3s ther double click them and they should open in iTunes unless they are faulty (and assuming iTunes is your default mp3 player).

I hope this is a bit of help. I am supposed to be working out how to use a digital camera so you think you've got problems...

Thanks for replying, Only A Hobo ("but one more is gone"). No, I AM getting the tunes into iTunes but not onto the iPod. I took your tip and ticked "kind" to find that all my tunes are either AAC, protected AAC or MPEG audio files (I went through all effin' 8,000-plus of them. So there are no WMAs or other rogue files in there. And of course when an MP3 is corrupt Limewire tells you so or you get an exclamation mark next the song title in iTunes. Good luck with the camera...

Thanks for your reply. I'm using Windows, have tried your "show Kind" suggestion and everything seems in order - all my tunes are AAC, protected AAC or MPEG audio files. No WMAs show up.

In response to your next para, I mean the iPod is missing songs. It's incredible if I used the header "iTunes Music Lib missing songs" because the opposite is true - must have been nervous, it being my first post. Plus maybe I'm just dumb

In my first reply I said this, which i think, I gather, is still relevant:

"Did you get any error message from iTunes when you plugged in the iPod?
Is your iPod set to automatic update and do you load all your iTunes folders onto iPod?"

Also ... do you have any smart playlists which might exclude certain songs .. not likely, but I have discovered a problem there once or twice.
and ... Is your iTunes size a good amount less than your iPod capacity.
And for good measure ... are ALL you song ticked at the left had side?

A tip for the columns in iTunes ... if you click the top of a column, the list will arrange itself in the order of that column .. ie if you tick "kind" you will get all the mp3s together etc. saves you going through them all one by one!

If anything here makes no sense atall, it could be because I use a Mac and there may be differences I know nothing about.

If you need more help see if you can answer my questionnaire! and we'll try to sort it out
Well, I'd already thought of most of that stuff so that wasn't the problem. But obviously you weren't to know that, I hadn't mentioned that I'd already done those things.
But the tip about clicking the top of a column, that's really useful.

Know what the problem was? After racking my brains I realised, in downloading 8,300 or so tunes, I must surely have duplicated a few here and there. Which turned out to be the case - so far I've found about 10 songs which I'd duplicated in iTunes but which the iPod wasn't duplicating. So I'll get round to flushing out the other 30-plus soon enough and then presumably there'll no longer be a discrepancy in Ipod and iTunes totals.
As usual, a simple answer to an apparently mystifying problem. Sorry to have wasted your time, it was nice of you to help out.

Better idea is to press the user cp (control panel) button above.
