Was going to start new thread here, (after not posting in quite some time!) - regarding this and asking for the same input/help. I'm finding similar files, 765k or 399.5. What I have been doing is banning the hosts carrying that file, which may or may not be foolish. I figure if they're carrying "crap," then why take the chance on them at all. Does anyone have a definitive list of these files (104, 765, 399 and the above mentioned size) - to steer clear of? Incidentally 4.9.28 is fantastic - just recently re-subscribed and upgraded from 3.8.5 - what an amazing program. Now if I can just "cleverly" filter out the junk . . . . I have had two virus "sirens" go off (which never happened before) - and believe that there is more malicious stuff out there now than ever before. Some of you are saying "DUH!" - but it's news to me! Cheers and thanks in advance./p Last edited by PaulLimewireFan2003; August 25th, 2005 at 06:37 PM. |

If the file size does not look right to you then its a virus. This will comeup alot if you are searching for software & movies. Its a junk file. Use a virus protection program when downloading off P2P. Software & movie files are extremely large to download and you shouldnt get this type of file if you're just searching for music under audio. Thanks to both of you. Yes, AVAST! screams off a loud bell and I do not move it to the "chest" for deletion - I instead delete to trash and then manually WIPE the file with 35 overwrites. I have under "filters" put ".exe," as one would be foolish to download an executable. I also right-click ALL files in shared folder from time to time (or upon download) and scan manually with AVAST! despite the fact that they're "checked automatically" upon download. Another safeguard (for me - perhaps not for everyone) - is find the host of such files and not only block that particular address - but find others starting with the same number, and block THEM ALL - for example: xx.*.*.* -- that seems to eliminate many of them. You also cut down search results that way - but who cares if the "results" were worms? Thanks again - both of you - cheers and happy Limewiring!/p |

SPHINX: would you recommend that anytime you see an ISP address affiliated with this (or these) files - you block them entirely? It would reduce selection - but would also reduce risk, no? I know I've virtually eliminated the "104k" version and have pretty much eliminated "from view) the other two I mentioned. Your thoughts would be very welcome! |

to be honest, Im so used to recognizing the viruses/worms ect that it doesnt bother me. I bypass em. you can block em but that kinda would limit the hosts? even tho those hosts are probably fake hosts. Im no expert by any means, I just know from experience how to avoid the junk files. I rarely come up with em as I basically just search for music and have never blocked any host, I just try to filterout the junk as much as possible. |
