Question Converting to DVD for home use.

Can someone please help me I want to play movies that I have downloaded on my Home DVD player (it is only a new one LG)
They have .avi , .divx, .bin extensions. I have downloaded a converter for trial but it says illegal source. or not supported. but it says it converts all the files above.
I have burnt .avi on a DVD-R won't play on my Home one. Do I need to burn it on a DVD-WR disc.
Please someone help I am a very big novice.

There's a free program for the DivX codec. Here is the link. http://www.divx.com/ You've probably downloaded the program with the converter in it. You don't need that one.

As for R/RW it doesn't affect the movie whatsoever. Your home DVD player may not be designed to play those types of discs. Unfortunatly some DVD models cannot read those discs.

Default movie help plsss

i read your post, and i was having the same issues. i downloaded the movie file and it worked perfectly, however when i burned it on dvd it wasn't working. so i went on that divx site and found this converter thingy. It DIDN'T work.

I am trying that right now but it takes a very long time to convert the file for home theatre viewing. plus there is a free trial period for only 1 week. Is there a better way of doing this? am i downloading the right files? can i format the dvd any other way?

What am i doing wrong?

I've played around with the converter and what that does is converts .avi files into .divx files. When this is done, the files are compressed to save room on your hard drive.

Roxio & Nero will normally do the job. If not, see the links in this post: CODECs list and alternate players for Movies If your player supports DVD-RW disks then it's wise to try it out on there 1st. Some players are dvd media brand fussy.
