I'm using some R-linux program now....it comes up with this warning:

NEVER TRY TO SAVE RECOVERED FILES/FOLDERS ONTHE SAME LOGICAL DISK WHERE THEY RESIDE!!!

Or you may obtain unpredictable results and lose all yourdata.

any idea what that means?

Note: My windows install it takes about 15min. with all the programs already instaled on it... 'cose I made some real backups of the programs and files that I know they are important... Who knows exactlly what System Restore is backup-ing... and some times the "_Restore" folder gets to bigger (On my comp it once was almos 1GB... What the....???... and I was wondering why my comp. is so slow... 'cose the System Restore was working verry hard... )

And I'm not using any king of program (guru programs that backup you disk, files and so on......)

Save them on other drive (ie D:\, E:\ ...) or at least in other folder...

On other fizical location onto your disk... for the moment and after that you can put them where you want.

Default WinXP Recovery

I can understand your reluctance to use System Restore but I believe it is one of Windows best facilities and can get you out of a bind.

For example, from time to time I try out new utilities that I think will be of use to me, such as a PDF to Word converter or new faxing software. Now if one of those new apps mess up on installation it could mean that I have to do a complete reinstallation or, with System Restore, just go back to a point before the installation.

I do know that not all Windows facilities work the way they should but when they do they save a lot of hassle.

I will agree on one thing though, there are certainly no substitutes for regular backups.
