Again, thank you both, That helps me a lot with my guilt level. I'm going to change that setting immediately, so if there's a break in the uploads, LW will shut down. That way no one gets irritated. This morning when I got up there was no one uploading but that was becaude my DSL had shut down on its own for a while. It was running awful slow the past few days, so I took the oportunity to cold boot my modem. That did the trick. Now it's loading pages quickly again. Well, time to get ready for work. Both of you have been a wonderful help to me. Not sure how I can ever repay you, but if you ever need something I can provide, I'll be thrilled to provide it. Have a great day! |

Closing down or rebooting your PC Hi Grandma Seems like Grandpa and Sgt have won your heart, I wonder if there is a little left room for me. As for switching your PC off, the guys are quite correct plus LW is dynamic enough to find another source to download from. You can see this in action when you do a download and you have, say, 10 sources then it falls to 9, which is a PC being turned off, and then it goes back up to 10 again, that's LW finding another source. The only time you should feel a twinge of guilt is if you are the only source for a particular rare file and you have to switch your PC off. However, I suspect that like Grandpa and myself, you probably leave your PC on for three to four days at a time. Finally, in answer to your question, I was born, raised, got married, had children and work in London, and it's a great city. UK Bob |

Wow, London! I'll bet it's a great city. And I'll bet I could get so lost in it so easily. I'm one of those awful Anglophiles who love reading British mystery novels and watching movies with foreign backdrops. I also love historical novels about 14th century England. Dorothy Dunnett wrote my all time favorite series set in Scotland, England, France, Malta and Turkey. Where do you work? How hard is it to find a flat? Do you have a place with room for a little garden or is it strictly downtown living? Aren't I nosey? Got family, too? I work for UPS TeleServices, which means I'm a tech lead of a team of agents who takes calls to fix our shipping software. It's the third biggest employer in the US, behind the government and the military. It's also the eighth largest in the world. A good corp to work for if you have to work for one. I didn't even know how to cut and paste in Windows when I took the job. Now I'm crazy about computers, but not rich enough like some of my co-workers who build their own with the best goods around. I've probably bored you enough. And since I have a 5 a.m. shift, I think I'm going to wind down for the night. Don't worry, I'll think of some more questions to harrass you all with. I really appreciate all the help from others more technical than me. You are all the best! Have a good one... |
