You welcome CyberStalker I do not think that BearShare is a bad program it works pretty good. I used it for a long time but in my opinion LimeWire is better at least for me and if you browse the BS forums they have problems also.

I should add that Microsoft Anti Spyware removed all traces of the spyware completely

I really dont understand your point? P2P is P2P the only diff. is some options. I prefer it over LW for speed. I seem to go faster and get more resources in BL than in LW. And if you perfer LW whats the point then? They both connect to the same network and allow you to download the same files. I personally prefer BL interface over LW and its easier to config and works really well with firewalls whereas, Limewire doesn't. In all these threads people have the same problems, they are having a hard time downloading or cant connect ect. Im no expert but to me, these apps are the same with a few different options. LW was always clunky compared to BS and I like the stats in Bearshare, it tells you your speed, and everything thats connected to the network, how many freeloaders, etc. LW doesnt. Not knocking either program as I use both. Be fair about it, Bearshare is best for smoother and faster downloads than Limewire. I can only go 20k in LW but in Bearshare I can go a bit faster with more resources than in LW. Just my humble opinion, nothing more.

I take that back, the only point your trying to make is that it has spyware. which can be removed after the install, no biggie there. Nothing new, its been like that for a long time now. Paranoid about spyware then dont use the program. I have used the basic as well and simply removed, scanned my drive and found no errors and I have an anti virus program.

I don't think Grandpa posted all of this for people who may be 'paranoid' about spyware. In the official BearShare site it states that BearShare Lite has no spyware. Grandpa just wanted to inform people that it indeed does contain spyware. You may not have found it a problem removing all of that crap but there's a lot of people that don't want to go through all of that hassle. Not only that, but I don't understand why BearShare would lie and say that the program doesn't have spyware in it when it actually does. What would they have to gain from that?

I will not enter the BS/LW debate, but two things:

BS development is dead, there won't be other versions/improvements
BS lite *IS* spyware free. Just like LW. Something reporting spywares in BS lite is a broken tool.

Mes 2 cents!

et voilà

So are you saying that Microsoft Anti spyware is reporting that BS/Lite has Spyware just because of the name BS

One thing that I did not do this time was run a boot scan with avast before running MSAS but the last time Avast reported Gain.

Quote:
Win 32: Trojano-324 in C:/Program Files/Common Files/qbr qendg/qendb/ppuelqt.exe most likely Gain spyware Avast could not repair it so I told Avast to delete it dumb move I should have manually removed it. Screwed up XP Pro big time. I then decided to re format my hard drive and start all over.
I do not like being wrong and if I am I will correct it what spyware program is not broken.

MS anti spyware was picking LW as a spyware before....

Try BS lite with Spybot and Adaware. I do not trust others, because they are not testing enough their tools. I thought MS was ok now, but it doesn't seem so now. Do we need a gazillion anti spyware tools just beause that's a lucrative market? (exploit users as usual...)

I've installed BS lite many times and never got spywares. By your screenshots it seems MS anti spyware just picks anything BS related as spyware, indicating MS antispyware is crap. That's the only logical conclusion I can get from the screenies.

Ciao
