Where are WINmx ppl going for d'lds? more

Now that WINmx is shut down, where are ppl going for dld's?
Limewire seems much quieter (for me anyway). I started using WINmx because I could get a lot more files for tv shows.

Probably because it's multinetwork & uses a different network for those types of files. See http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=1 for help for winmx.

Thanks for the info, LOTR. I will try to do this later when I have more time but I did click through to 'hosts' file...I opened that and it brings up a window that says "what program do you want to use to open the file" or something like that...what do I do? Thanks!

Sorry I misunderstood your post. I thought you were looking for winmx help. I'm not totally understanding your question. Is it you've downlded a video file & the system doesn't know which program to open it with? I always keep VLC - (click on link) __ (choose nearest mirror site) handy, if only as a backup player it is very handy as it has in-built codecs & plays almost every file out there. Easier than trying to find the correct specific codec for a particular file.

Location of downlds? Default location is: C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

But you can go to LW's Library window & select Saved Files & press Explore button & this will open the LW downld folder for you.

LOTR,

You were right the first time. That link helped me. Here is the page I'm referring to:

http://www.vladd44.com/mx/peercaches.php

I followed the steps up to step 7...("7. You will see a file named hosts. Rename it to Originalhosts as a backup.") but didn't do the rename yet. I opened the "hosts" file and that's when it brought up the "what program to use to open..."

I guess I'm scared to actually follow through all the way - I don't know what I'm doing and I'm afraid I'll mess up. Thanks!
