Default "WHAT THE F%&#" ?!! My Files Are GONE???

Hey all,

Having A Bit Of An ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(don't laugh)

I was trouble-shooting LIMEWIRE for uploading capabilites. I deleted the prefs as per "Lord of the Ring"
and noticed an "MP3 PLAYLIST OPTION' appeared afterwards.

Curious, I dragged my muzik files there to see what this MP3 playlist was ALL ABOUT. Wasn't to thrilled so I PRESSED THE ' DELETE' ("X") button AT THE TOP thinking it was going to remove it form the playlist.

BUT, NOW MY FILES ARE ALL GONE!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't find it anywhere on my local hd anymore.

I am a music artist and THESE WERE MOST (not all, thank god) OF MY HARD-WORKED muzik files that I simply wanted to share w/ everyone.

AM I SCREWED!!????

WHAT GIVES???

WHY IS THAT BUTTON THERE in the first place???
(it can easily confuse someone)

why in god's name would you delete that? You wont be able to get that back if you deleted it.

So you can delete things you don't want to keep.

I'm not laughing.

Deleting preferences cures many problems as long as you do it with Limewire totally closed ... you looses your settings only and you need to reconfigure them.

The Delete Files option on Limewire is a total pita and for some reason I thankfully don't have it. I am told I should have it. Why it exists atall is beyond me too.

If you use Windows xp it is quite easy to retrieve the files, otherwise you will need a file retrieval utility, which MIGHT work.... I think if you search using the button above right (search File and Retrieval) you should find details

A cautionary note. Always back up important files before doing anything on your computer you are not 100% sure about ... and ....... at any other time as well.

Just a little PS here:

If you have XP and delete something using LW then you can't get it back unless you use an undelete utility. But if you delete files using Windows Explorer, which then go into the "Recycle Bin", you will be able to retrieve or undelete those files.

UK Bob

PS. Always make sure you want to delete before pressing that button.

Like in WIN AMP or ITUNES, you put stuff in your 'PLAYLIST' but it'z not linked into your local files! (as the same with any other)

You delete from ITUNES, you're NOT deleting original files.
You delete from WINAMP, you're NOT deleting original files.
You delete from WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, you're NOT deleting original files.
but,....for some stupid reason....
You delete from LIMEWIRE, you ARE deleting original files!!!

that was stupid on there part; (and stupid on my part).
why put any effort AT ALL in an internal MP3 player if it sucks?

(sigh) ...got my files back, took a bit of work but got 'em back luckily.

Thats because those are stand alone players and are not connected to a P2P app. At least you got em back. Just, next time remember not to hit the delete button in LW because it will go straight to the bin.
