Unhappy help on speed and config

listen, sorry about being such a plank, with the question, but paying for 512 adsl, but that went **** up when machine went down, done a deal with technician, and now have router, but god knows what speed it is, put cursor on comps at bottom of screen and it says speed 100.0 mbps, now how would i config the slider in the download and upload, please forgive me if this is stupid question, but my head is pickled, have looked at the conversion table that was posted but did bot know where to put it, i should have listened in maths, instead of pissing about,

(8 kbps = 1 KB/s) Well you'll need to leave yourself some room for browsing so generally a 512 kbps equates to between 50-54 KB/s capability after overheads are subracted (average of just over 20% overhead loss such as distance from supplier, & other reasons.) So either set it to Modem or DSL/Cable so you can configure it to suit you both for downlds & uploads whilst leaving a little for browsing.

Some hints you'll find here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27036

Huh! I hope you weren't ripped off!
One way to find out your exact speed is choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/

Then you'll know your exact speed. Allow at least 5 KB/s for browsing. So if your speed is 52 KB/s for example, then set LW downld speed to 42-47 KB/s. Apply a similar technique to uploads.

The way you set it as you suggested, it looks above your actual speed capability so all would go to LW & little to browsing.

BTW did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

I think you're getting confused a little here between bits & bytes. (8 bits = 1 byte.)

So your speed is about 106 KB/s ... so that's better than expected lol
So you can give 5-20 KB/s toward browsing & the remainder to LW. Thus you could set your LW downld speed to 85-95 KB/s

Make sense?
Also consider your upload speed. (I hope you're not a leecher! lol ) We share between each other so if no-one shares then there's nothing to downld.

It's in the details 1KB=8kb
