![]() If you download Frostwire, it comes with it's own preference folder and installing it will not affect your Limewire installation. It will however, for one time only, copy most of the Limewire preferences into Frostwire preferences (If you have Limewire installed). Thereafter you can run either (though not both simultaneously), and alter the respective preferences independently. The Beta release of Frostwire has a couple of teething problems, which you can check out in the Frostwire forum, but give it a try... it only takes up a few MB and works in most respects just like Limewire. There's no point in deleting Limewire, unless you are absolutely sure you want to. Nothing in Limewire is at present restricting files that can be transered using it ... afaik many wma files have always required a licence ... The restrictions are only going to come with future versions of Limewire. Which version or when ... is anybodys guess. I hopoe this helps |

![]() Thanks for the advice and it cleared up some things for me. I know Frostwire is in beta right now, so I think I can hold off for a while. I got everything downloaded for now that I wanted. However, there is one thing I need to ask, and this may not be the proper place, but I'll let the mods fix that if it needs it. The question is this - while exploring my system I found a file called C:\Windows\All Users\DRM. In the file these items were listed: DRMv1.BAK BAK File DRMv1.key Registration Entries DRMv2.lic LIC File DRMv2.licIndex LICINDEX File DRMv2.sst Certificate Store IndivBox.key Registration Entries V2ks.bla BLA File V2ks.sec SEC File V2ksndv.bla BLA File These items were all dated around the day that I was setting up my present computer, except for one for the "Certificate Store" which was 10/16/05, yesterday when I was asked for a DRM certificate. The one I was trying to d/l was from weedshare and I thought these were ok. Like I said, this may be in the wrong place, I'll just attribute it to Open Discussion LOL. Thanks again for the info on Frostwire. I think I may have graduated to intermediate newbie now so I do get frustrated, but not as much and I can pretty much most of the time figure out how to fix a problem. But I'd like to make the switch as painless as possible. ![]() Once more, thanks! THE END Last edited by u2btrfly; October 17th, 2005 at 10:47 PM. |

![]() If you get no replies to the DRM files I suggest starting a new thread as it is a somewhat different subject, and as I think I am right in thinking you are using windows one that I am not sure about. Using Mac I downloaded a Weedshare file a few weeks ago and could not open it due to licence problems which at present cannot be overcome on a Mac ... So I do know that there are licences on weedshare files but that using windows they should open without problem. You don't say if the file opened OK for you. For all I know you files are perfectly normal, but then a gain ...... I should be interested to learn exactly what thety are from the Windows experts. Btw when did you set up your computer? and have you bought or installed any leglly obtained music on your computer. |

![]() Hi there, Once again, thanks for your response. I will move that over to the Windows section (Damn I hate Windows, Gates, and Micro$oft!). Would much prefer an Apple - too monetarily inadvisable right now, know what I mean. Anyway, I did not even fool around with the DRM messages, I just closed them. Too paranoid I guess. The only legally obtained music I purchased over the net was cd's through BMG music. ![]() |
