Shared Limewire iTunes people who?
 

Not sure if this is an iTunes or Limewire question, but was wondering who are the people under my 'shared music' list such as

'John Doe's Limewire Tunes'

I never added them but they're just there. The one guy's name I recognize as my neighbour's (we never talk or anything so he wouldnt add me) and then I have another person on there I know lives around here.

Does it just automatically add people who live close to me or something??
Or is my wireless adapter picking up their network signals 3 houses away, and sharing their music with me because we're somehow on the same network??

If you are networked to another computer you will see these folders, so I am pretty sure that the same thing will happen with a wireless connection.

Your second guess looks about right:) It looks like Limewire is pretty popular in your part of the world!:)

Well, two of you are using the Wireless Access Point and the Internet connection of the third person. Hard to say who is using whose AP/Internet but it's obviously not intended!?

Wireless Access Points are per default open for everyone and Wi-Fi/WLAN cards tend to pick the AP with the strongest signal.

I would assume its them 2 using my connection...but the one name I know for sure where they live and its like 3 houses over...I dont live in an apartment building or anything.

Its just very hard for me to believe my WAN is spreading that far...and my AP isnt noticing any other networks when I run a scan.....and if they are on my network, Im fairly certain it would be incidental/not on purpose

Anyways, could it just be maybe that we have the same ISP (ADSL) and it puts us on some sort of subnetwork together since we're in the same area (I have no idea of their ISP's, though mine is pretty popular here in Canada)

Im pretty computer literate, but networking, is not my thing at all.


The other name on there is just ADAM, no last name unlike the other user, so it could be someone around here I guess, some little guy Im guessing as the list is all digimon songs, and such?

Anyways, just very weird, Im gonna go and disable the wireless network and run a computer off the LAN only and see if the names are still there.
