First rule of thumb with videos of any kind, is to download the codecs so you can preview them. If some files wont work at all that could mean they are no good and corrupt. Beware of viruses/trojans/worms as you're downloading. Run your AV scanner each time you log off the network to make sure none of the files got infested. |
That I understand....so you know ...I never turn off my norton...run 2005 system works premier...so yes The AV and Worm stays on... thats what i couldn't understand as i do have most of the main codecs covered....with four players and a couple codec packs.... but I do realize that I am not covered completely yet on codec's..kind of waiting till i get the new nero 7 ultra in before i add the others... you didn't say weather dvd shrink will pull the closed captions out ...and what file they might be,,,,,??? or which tool to use to analize the file with besides virus....besides it being on auto ...its set to scan once a day... what i didnt tell you is that 200 gig slave drive ....thats al it is my down loads...and stuff i can replace....anyway.... but still need to know what to use to tell me what i need to convert to ...as i understand the nero doesn't do all.... thanks .... just an old highway tramp ----Bill--- |
as an after thought...I don't delete either....I over write with norton shredder..... Take care just an old highway tramp ---Bill--- |
For .avi files you will most likely need a divx codec. You can get it here. www.divx.com Download the blue one.:) |
Thanks stalker....already got that player and codecs...plus koepi xivd package....power DVD 6 deluxe and nero show time 2 and windows 10... the files in question couldn't burn either through nero express vision 3...they would freeze up in trans code...no don't have the error report...anymore..i am fixxing to snatch everything out and reinstall..... kind of twilding my thumbs waiting on the download release of nero 7 ....was syupose to be out on the 26 th now they are saying the 2nd...and getting bored waiting...hehehe also got a couple files i need to run through dvd shrink ...and need to find out which files i leave out to get rid of the closed captioning.....got anyidea which files they maybe...??? thanks just an old highway tramp ---Bill-- |
what you will want to do is get rid of all the crap players and stick to one you like, get gspot (it's a program that looks at a file and tells you wich codec you need and if you have the respective codec or not_ also try to search for a codec pack that has most popular codecs in one, i used to like k-lite codecpack, but there are more out there. running to much different players doesn't help you since in my experience it's hard to have all the codecs apply to all of them, i just use windows media player 10 with all the codecs i need and have not a single file i can't run as of yet (except corrupt files and maybe realplayer files but i never use those, and if i want to i can probably play those aswell, just get the right codec) |
thanks panic_fire... only reason got the divx in is for the codec pack wth it...xvid from koepi's is just that a codec pack...I use nero to burn with and use start smart a lot.... so guess I need to upgrade my power DVD 6 as I like it the best......but still those same files haveing trouble with .....want to burn them when i get it figured out...not just play on my pc...but a stand alone too... one of the problem files is a batman begins....supose to be an avi...but ...???and DL right off of lime....actully think still got one in my files... then I am wondering how to pull the closed caption out of a file befor I burn it.....as have a couple files from LW that no matter what I do they play when i open the file....no turning it off.....and can't read chineese ..let alone spell it...hehehe...and ever other version of the same files also play with the closed caption too.... so any help there is needed to.... and THANKS AGAIN just an old highway tramp ----Bill--- |
