Anti-virus updates

Hi guys, I have norton AV 2004, and it needs to be updated by the 18/11/2005 at a cost of $50 something dollars, so my question is do you have to update or do you just leave the 2004 edition and is this dangerous.

Many Thanks in advance.....;)

Updating Anti-Virus Subscription

Hi, wondering why. I think what happens is that if you do not update, your subscription will eventually expire and you will no longer be able to download new virus definitions. That would definitely be dangerous.

Trend Micro can scan your computer for viruses and it is a free scan. :)

Trend Micro is a good free on-line scanner but I don't think they offer a d/l version that scans in real time. Try it out here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/. You have to use Internet Explorer Browser to use it.

Avast and AVG Anti-Virus are two free AVs that are supposed to be good and they offer real time protection.

Norton AntiVirus 2005

Wondering why

I'm a Nortons user and, like you, I have been faced with the choice of either updating or upgrading my AV and PF. Updating allows you to continue receiving updated virus definitions for the next calendar year while upgrading gets you the next version of Norton's and also updated virus definitions for the next 12 months from installation.

Of the two options, I found that it was cheaper to upgrade rather than update.

So if you go to the Symantec website you will find that you can download or buy NAV2006 less than the quoted price of just keeping NAV2005 updated.

Thanks Uk Bobby,
I will take your advice on this one,I did call symantec and they said the same thing. I did check out the free stuff but I wasn't to fussed, one of them wanted to delete my outlook express ( I have no idea why so I cancelled that download), I'd rather pay a few dollars and be safe, norton hasn't let me down yet.

Again many thanks....;)
