1. Why do users keep downloading a file with this size when it is known to be a file containing a Trojan?

2. Is there anyway that Limewire can remove all such files from the system?

To answer your questions:Some people are either stupid, lazy or don't care but I suspect that, in addition, the RIAA, via it's cronies, are seeding the P2P network with these virus infected files in order to bring the network down.

No, because the network consists of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of individual PCs and servers. Just like LW cannot control what you or I put or our PCs, likewise LW cannot control what other P2P users put on their PCs either.

LOL. Im sorry but I find humor in this post. What do you except? You're stealing illigal files from other users lmao. so yeah, there's gonna be viruses/trojans/worms inside this files and on the network, and, ukbobby, I want to pointout, it's NOT the RIAA doing it. Its the hackers/crackers etc. The IRAA could careless about what gets shared. Only their socalled music. I doubt they'd waste their time with trojans/viruses/worms. They're too busy suing the users instead.

If users stuck with downloading MP3 files like in old days instead of games/movies/software, they'd be no viruses on Gnutella P2 Network. But, people are greedy and thats why these viruses are spreading from system to system because they see stars in their eyes and download whatever they can get their hands on it without an AV installed on their computer. :rolleyes:

I do realise that the problems with viruses is due to negligent users not caring or watching what they upload onto the system.

However, have you ever wondered where those small files that can constantly change their names containing viruses come from, and the constantly rotating IP addresses that spawn these files, do you believe a hacker/cracker has the resources to set this kind of apparatus in motion, I personally don’t believe so.

Remember that RIAA paid cronies have already admitted that they have been paid to seed the P2P network with false files and it is not that far from “seeding with false files” to “seeding with false files containing viruses”.

So, whereas I agree that the RIAA are not personally damaging the P2P network with viruses I do believe, but cannot prove, that their cronies are doing it for them.

Sphinx, I know it is hard to prove a negative but I think that the increase in false files along with the concurrent increase in viruses is really too much to be a coincidence.

No, they are downloading files offered by other members. That isn't stealing, it's sharing. "Not paying" for copyrighted material is stealing.

Not everyone is involved with games and programs. Many of the members download music only. As for accusing Tassac of stealing, that would presume he (or any of us for that matter) aren't bright enough to recognize a pattern (851.7) in posted files. I have seen it also. They are everywhere, in every file category. There are a few real small (24k) ones also.

So don't jump to conclusions. Presume innocence.

Besides, you can download outdated software from several companies and use it for free. One of the graphics programs come to mind. Adobe? Paint shop? I forget.

Yes, there are a lot of very lazy or uninformed people in the world. IT"S TOO BAD SO MANY OF THEM HAVE INTERNET. :-)


As for filtering the crap, how about a list? All you would need to do is make a list of the obvious file size's and have LM post it on their web site.

As for the IRAA, if there are members or lackeys in their midst, who are STUPID enough to admit they are violating a very large number of rules both in the US and the rest of the world. More power to them.

When they get busted for gross stupidity, (Much wampum for infecting and trying to break things) and cry about it on the INTERNET. Then I'll see the humor and ROFLMAO.
