Unhappy lemon wire

Can any of the Gnutella/limewire honchos out there explain this for me?
1. purchased limewire 31/10/05
cost- 22.46 USD- according to visa statement(IP P2PSUPPORT.NET-does this sound right to you?))
2. Everything went swimmingly until roughly 6 days ago when it stopped working altogether. WHY?
3. Tried fixing according to forum instructions eg. adjusting firewall settings (XP).
4. None of this worked .
5. Now when i try to re-download limewire pro (which I assume is the one I purchased because basic is free) I'm prompted for my email address . When i enter same email address it is not recognised .
6. I have paid for something that then failed. On the advice your forum I deleted it from my system & now it would seem I have to buy it back again. SATAN WILL TOBOGGAN TO WORK THE DAY I DO THAT!.
7. Now! can any one help me???

You were scammed. Limewire Pro costs $18.88US and you get it here: www.limewire.com.

Now you need to try and get your money back. If you can go to the site you purchased LW from and tell them you know you were scammed and want your money back, also go to your bank/cc company they should have a fraud dept that can help you out. then you should cancel your cc because they have your billing info and could use it for other illegal transactions

The version you got was probably Basic and not Pro, you can check it in Limewire by going to Help>About Limewire(See an example here: About Limewire) If it doesnt say Pro you didnt get Pro. And you didn't get if from the official site and thats why it doesn't recognise your e-mail. Go here for a list of some of the Scam Sites that are out there.

You should also delete the version you got from them and d/l the one from the official site. The version you have could contain adware, malware, ect. Remember Basic is "free" so you wont have to pay again. You should run free for a while before buying Pro so you can work the kinks out.

Now when you d/l the official version you could still have connection problems. If you do then come to the appropriate forum for help.

Good luck

Meako

Sorry you got scammed but you did end up going to IP P2PSUPPORT.NET.

Can you tell us, as a dire warning to other Junior Members, how did you end up at that scam site?

What baffles me is how are you guys that are getting scammed/conned left & right are finding this forum if you didnt get Limewire Pro from the official site?

everyone seems to 'google it' or something instead of typing in: www.limewire.com in the search engines. They mostlikely type in something like 'limewire' and the first thing that comes up when you do that are the scam site. you better cancel that transaction ASAP! and if you have to, change or get a new cc number before the scammers use your card info.

thanks to all who replied to my vehement post.
you have confirmed my worst fear-I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED-
I am a bit of a dunderhead who does not even pretend to know how computers work.
I googled for a downloadable music sharing program. to replace the late lamented winmx.
Obviously got on a non genuine site (not hard to do) & followed the instructions.
What gets me really mad is that it worked beautifully-no probs with Lime wire at all whilst it was running.

My advice to the unwary BE CAREFUL .
- I will def contact Visa & make an attempt to retrieve the money . Realistically I have written it off to experience.
thanks once again for the support.
I will not elaborate on the darkness that I wish upon thieves of any calibre

Seriously, dont let this slide and dont make a payment until your cc card clears that up for you. Good luck and, keep checking your monthly statements to make sure there are no funny charges on it, if so, then get your cc number changed right away!
