Sorry I wasn't very clear. I know the peer to peer part and obviosly people need to share files for there to even be limewire, but I was wondering if sharing or not sharing messes up downloading. If you do not share will you not be able to download? My options were set to no sharing because when I first got limewire a long time ago, and then I forgot to change it back, so I was a free loader. But even when I changed it back, I still have problems downloading, I did all the recomendations for downloading better, but in the end the files that are partially downloaded or not at all will say AWAITING SOURCES for ever and ever. So I was just trying to figure out why this is happening and if sharing had anything to do with it. |

Thanks for the response, I think that was the exact answer I was looking for. I believe I was a free loader at first, and I was able to download these files for a day or so (there are only a few sources) and I think they may all have blocked me because they realized I had no shared folders. So now there is probably no way to get these files correct? Even though I now have sharing files. The only thing I could do is go to another computer with limewire, right? thanks again |

If you're not supposed to share more than 700 files or whatever... What's with the green box at the bottom of LimeWire with a large number (at the moment, 11,261), which states when I put the mouse icon over it "You are sharing 11,261 files"? I'm uploading no files and downloading two- what exactly does it mean? |

Hi...I have a question. If I wanted to stop sharing my files, how would I do that and not have them all disappear? I clicked on "stop sharing" on my shared folder and it just disappeared. I added it again, but now everything is still being shared. Does anyone know how to stop sharing but still keep all my files in my library? Thanks! |

I'm sorry that you feel the need to be bitter and nasty to a total stranger, and I am sorry that you look for the worst in people. I have been sharing my files for over two years and will continue to do so, as the network will only work if people share files. I am happy to do so, and will continue to. My concern is not for any agency who is coming to arrest me for shared files. However, I have had recent severe problems with spyware and viruses, and I am getting a tech to come clean my computer this week. In the meantime, I am trying to close all open connections so that I don't share these problems. Once my computer is clean, I will put my files back online. It was a temporary removal from the network, but I still wanted to be able to use my files in the interim. I am sorry for you that you are so angry and bitter and want to take that out on someone else and jump to the worst possible conclusion. I admit that I am not good with computers, hence I asked a simple question in the hopes that someone who was more knowledgable could help me, which I thought was the point of these forums. I did not expect a response to be antagonistic, confrontational and contain swearing. (I also have no idea what "rtfm" means, so that wasn't helpful, but given your post I'm sure it was something nasty and mean.) You clearly know a lot about Limewire and since I don't, I thought that someone like you could help me. Apparently not. I don't understand your need to post a reply if the point was just to be a jerk - why bother? Last edited by MHMcL14; December 8th, 2005 at 07:23 PM. |

Exactly, I couldn't agree more. No sharing means no network. Every single one of my files is open for sharing, as they have been since the second I signed on to Limewire. My original question was just to figure out how to temporarily not share and still view files, and put everything back to shared once my computer is ready. I don't know how to do that. However, Sphinx, given your advice I think I need to cut down on the number of files shared as I have over 1000 - is that a true concern or can I just continue to leave the whole folder open and shared? Should I put a couple hundred in a non-shared folder to get my shared number under 700? Do a couple hundred files really make a difference? And if that's true, again, how can I make my non-shared folder available for use? Sorry for all the questions, I am not very technological and could use all the help I can get. But obviously I want to keep sharing my files as much as possible. Thanks! |
