I dont understand why all of a sudden these newbies need to ask these very dumb questions. do you really worry about such things while you're downloading stealing that piece of copyrighted software that is probably riddled with viruses and hidden trojans anyway? trojans will do more harm to your computer than getting caught by the FBI for stealing software.

I scan every file I download Regardless of type before I open it so I don't worry much about viruses, trojans and spyware.

You do realize that even the best of AV's sometimes dont detect all hidden trojans/spyware right?

Of course, there's always a few that may slip by the AV.
Then if you think about, if a virus or trojan is new then the AV probably won't recognize it as a threat since it probably doesn't have it in it's definition file. But that's why they have regular updates. We will never be 100% safe online because as long as there's an internet there will be threats, and the good guys will keep making tools to get rid of them, and the bad guys will keep changing them and making new ones to avoid detection.

Why are these stupid questions and seem to be disregarded and why does it seem nobody gives you a straight answer or just gives you a bunch of legal jargon? This should be a legitimate concern. I hear people say "this has been discussed many many times". I don't necessarily have the time or energy to scroll through every post. What are the chances of getting busted and how would the authorities go about doing it? I just saw where this New York woman got fined $7,500.00 because her kids were downloading music. What can you do to prevent from getting caught?

Sometimes forum members will give off handed answers because the question has been answered many times and a simple search of the forums will give them the answer. And the answer is that downloading and sharing copyrighted material may be illegal depending on what part of the world you live in and nobody can honestly tell you if you will get caught.

So the short answer is obey the laws where you live.

Also discussions about piracy are forbidden by the Forum Rules
