Default limwire pro speed

I am thinking of upgrading to Limewire Pro, as basic is so slow. I get a max of 5KBs at the moment. Will it be faster. I am on dial up, broadband is not available in the area yet.

Golden oldie

I'm a LW Pro user, always have been, but I don't think you will get better internet speed by changing from Basic to Pro.

Internet speed is dependant on a lot of things that happen outside of your computer, i.e. congestion (you have to compete with telephone users), infrastructure (modern or outdated), distance from your download source, ISP policy on P2P usage, etc., any one or a combination of these things can slow your connection speed down.

You would be better off waiting until broadband is available in your area, then upgrade to Pro.

As ukbobboy01 says it will do you no good to go to pro your dial-up connection is limiting you to your current download speed you can do a speed test but I can tell you if you have 56k your max would be 7Kb/s - overhead which at max would give you 6Kb/s and that is if you are really close to the source on a very good line. The link below will take you to a speed test site.

Hi Grandpa, It was working....

I have a cable connection...
The test results were 1.96mpbs = 240.29 download
and 112.32kbps = 14.04 upload

Is that a good result???

Remember to do multiple tests at different times of the day. The results can vary greatly so you need to make an approximation.

And those results are pretty great: theoretically, if you find a video file that is 240MB large, you could download it in 10 mins or so if you manage to dld at full speed.
That's damn good (I mean, compare it to poor golden oldie's 56k...)

Hello Murasame, so the speeds are good, I've actually just finished reading your post on configuring lw, so now, finally its all done, I had my uploads set way to high.. Im dl music at the moment and it doesn't actually go as high as my speed indicated, but I am up in the 100s, so Im happy with that, when I do dl movies, an average of 700mb it usually takes in between 2-3 hrs and Im happy with that....

I can download at over 600KBytes/sec when direct dlding from the internet.
That doesn't mean that I expect to reach the same speeds in LW.
That's because to reach 600KB, I would have to connect to 6 other users, all of them having about 100KBps for upload bandwidth.
They would also need to be uploading only to me in order for this to work.
