AVI media splitter problem

I have downloaded a film in two separate formats mpg and avi and when I try to play it a error window comes up saying " AVI cant find index.

I am fairly new to this,

Can any one help me resolve the problem

You need to get the correct codecs installed in your player, but easier still get VLC media player it has all the necessary codecs already installed and its a free download....

Many thanks for your reply.
I Have downloaded VLC media player and still have a problem in that these downloads will not play, although I am not getting an error window coming up.

But I do get the error when I try to burn with Nero.

Can't find index ... doesn't sound good! Why did you label your thread "AVI media splitter problem"? Have you split the video with some software? Which program did you use & which format did you save to? Sounds like more a problem with your splitter program not doing its job properly in saving to a common denominator format or any compatible format.

Select each of the files & go to properties & tell us what size these files are. Are they parts of a single video or are they individual movies?

They are both individual movies of the same film.

Because I had a problem the first time I downloaded again in a different format to see if that was the problem.

When I go to my share folder and hover over each file a small window pops up this is headed "Haali media splitter" and it says "Cant find index"

One movie is 797Mb Windows movie with an avi format according to the limewire search page and properties confirms this

The other one is 797mb Mpeg movie and properties confirms this as well

Both of them will not play on windowa media player or VLC player

And nero gives the same error as explained before

There could be something wrong with the file, it could be a dud..
You can check files using the Bitzi lookup
Right click on file in search window of LW
Click on advance
Click on look file up with bitzi
Its a great site and will give info on file i.e if its any good, corrupt and so on...
Maybe you could try another movie and then use your VLC to watch it...;)

would like to thank you all for your assistance.
Have checked with Bitzi and found that they had bad reports.
Will press on and download others and will let you know the results.

I started downloading another movie from the same search site.

Half way through the download, I remembered I hadn't checked with Bitzi.

Did a check and found I was downloading a totally different movie to the one I thought I was.

Did a preview and found it was PORN.

And it wasn't a bad one LOL

Have registered with Bitzi and downloaded Bitcollider
and am now trying to find my way around

Once again thanks very much for your help.

You never know I may be back again

Glad to hear its sorted, Its amazing that alot of files are not what their meant to be, bitzi is a very handy site, you'll be able to make your comments to 'cause quite often files can be an unknown bitprint, which can be frustrating....

Anyhow happy downloading.....;)
