If I recall there was a similar debate last week, were I got snapped at what I share... All Id like to say is that everone has different circumstances for what and when they share their files and even if they share only 1 file in my eyes their not freeloaders..
So before certain people shoot off at the mouth they maybe should enquire on why people do what they do.......

When I used dial up which was only 15+ mths ago, I only had one slot open for uplds, but if I was away from the computer sometimes I would open 2 slots (but just occasionally ... obviously one slot is better except when you take in account for shared downlding from multiple hosts.)

My advice for p2p sharing nowadays ... get another HDD be that internal or external. I have 2 internals (120 GB each), a 160 & 250 GB external (though I don't use the 250 for sharing ... only for backup.)

External drives are getting cheaper by the day. Even if it's less than 100 GB, it's going to be cheapish. Be it USB or firewire connection. It doesn't matter. You'll be surprised how much happier you feel with the extra space & options for both backup & sharing. Most people who use DC hubs have external drives ... it's a fact of life for p2p nowadays. Perhaps some of the newish peers can learn from this concept/suggestion.

I know of some people who have mutliple 250 GB external drives set up for both downlding & sharing. Some specfically for uploading. (Yes 1-2,000 GB / 1-2 Terabyte shares)

Thank you, wondering why. I want to clarify that I only had one song but my sister and my Mom have more then that. With Windows XP we all have our own accounts so that means our LimeWire libraries are not all the same.

I dont share everything I download either infact I only share about a 100 song files, everything else gets off my drive as I have only a laptop and cant store files and you might want to ease up a bit as Ive said before if you share very large amounts the RIAA will probe you.

and most Gnutella users dont seem to want to download music anyway, unlike my napster days, I gladly shared 500 music files but whats the point on Gnutella? all they want to dl is stolen software/games/porn.

shrug.

The main reason we downloaded LimeWire is for songs. The last thing I want is a virus in my computer.

Same here, but, you do have to watchout for the bogus MP3's however, as they are being generated as small files but namec as a mp3 extension.

I sometimes will download a movie trailer every now and then but thats about it. Oldies is what I search for anyway.

Ibuy my software & DVD's. I refuse to buy music as Ive already bought the music Ive downloaded as MP3 and refuse to pay for it a third time in a different format.

Bogus mp3's? I've never heard of them before. What should I look out for?

Default File Sharing

Cyberstalker, I apologize if I seemed to be snapping at you -- no snap was intended. At the same time, I am disappointed in your choice of language and tone in your reply. My point is a pretty simple one -- if you can't or won't share files, then I believe you shouldn't be downloading them. That's all I was trying to say. And I appreciate that you are now sharing.

Wondering Why, it seems that you and I differ in our definition of freeloader. Someone who downloads many files and only shares one is, in my view, a freeloader. And I guess I don't really care what the reason is for the lack of sharing. However, I would not accuse you of shooting off at the mouth, as I believe you were just expressing your opinion.

And, having read the various expressions of opinion about who attracts notice from the RIAA and other regulatory bodies, I have cut my own file sharing down below 1000 mp3's. Hope that makes it safer.

When I said 1 file it was only as a point, I myself share many more than that....
How does anyone tell a freeloader, you cant really, because the freeloader option doesn't work so if you set it at, lets say 1000, its not going to stop anyone even if their sharing only 1 file...
Browsing hosts isn't always reliable either because 1 min nothing shows and if you go back 5 mins later they can show over 1000 files, I had this happen with my ultrapeers just last night...
So the only way to tell if they're a freeloader is if they tell you...

Anyone feel free to correct my point of veiw, please do,
as I said I got slammed before because I stated that I had only 180 something files (I have a bit more than that now).

So I didn't mean to get snappy when I stated dont shoot off at the mouth, but Cyberstalker has a reason for what she does and she's entitled to that.....
