Aborted Downloads

I have been trying to download files now for a couple of days. They seem to get to approx. 15-20% complete and then ABORT. I have found alternative versions of the same content, and the result is still the same. Could someone please help as this is getting very fustrating.

Are you meaning the downlds are showing a message saying Aborted? If yes then see below.

It sounds to me like the files you're trying to downld are corrupt as LW detects them. And the first time you were warned about this with a popup window asking do you wish to continue the downld, you clicked "No" in answer & then ticked the "Always use this answer." You can undo that setting by going to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>View>Popups & tick the option for Revert to Default & press apply button.

Now we should find out why LW is detecting these files as corrupt. If they're video, I often still continue them as it might only be the end credits or such that can't be played. I've downlded many a video that could in fact be played.

However if it's audio downlds you're having problems with, then that's a different kettle of fish. See T3 Spammers; mp3 Bit-Rates Versus File Sizes Don't forget you can preview your audio downlds.

Also some other things to consider:

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Check any anti-virus & similar utilities you have to make sure they allow LW access. But yet do their job. Some utilities do in fact need permissions set in their options to allow LW access to the net.

Make sure your hard disk drive is in healthy state. Check it over with your disk & file utilities. Defragment your HDD frequently. Make sure you don't use over 90% of space.

aborted also

today i decided to try my first video D L. the first was running at 8 hosts around 80 kbs.
the second video got to 8 hosts around 80 kbs.

i was on the moniter tab when i noticed my D L arrow was 2@352kbs. i went back to search tab, the arrows were both stuck.(the other was 6@17) my second video was aborted. i couldn't cancel, so i cleared. it went to my incompletes. the other video continued at 11kbs, but arrow was still stuck.
i went to statistics, it wasn't right, current & average weren't moving total was. i went to connections, they were still there but, 1 of 3 was incoming. i've never seen an incoming connection before.
since all was slooow, i shutdown (gracefully) re-started comp, and did a full scan. seems to be running o.k. i re-started both videos. i did check w/bitzi on both videos. neither had "junk".
both videos are 100%, no other probs w/D L.

aborted files

LW states that it cannot find a License to dl the file (Rush Hour). DL anyway. Yes, as its at 98% but every few mins it dies. Then I have to do it all over again.
Is there anyway one can avoid the abort?

Does it actually say Aborted? If not, cancel downld & reselect from search results. Also re-search the file & also choose Get more results so you can find more sources for it.

Yep, says Aborted. HAd already searched for more results. 116 people have it. It then dls for a few mins, then disappears from the list. I leave the aborted dl in the list, then in the search menu, I click the same file again to dl. It starts at the 56% where it is and the same thing happens over and over! If i delete the first aborted file, the new file dls from 0%..

rallydriv3r January 2nd, 2007 02:34 AM

the file seems to be completing now, finally! Is there anyway to avoid this?
Thanks dude

rallydriv3r January 2nd, 2007 02:37 AM

ha, 99% and now downloading from 1 host at 0%.. this happens often as well... What is happening here?

Lord of the Rings January 2nd, 2007 03:24 AM

If you want to get rid of the aborted status, revert popups to default. ie: go to tools-options-view-popups.
LW is detecting a corruption in the file because it doesn't agree with the original hash of the file when you 1st started downlding it. Question is whether it's a severe corruption or something minor. A minor corruption can mean a different id3 tag or file description. Normally LW would keep attempting to redownld the missing or corrupted part up to about 5 times before giving up. But because when you 1st received a corrupted message should you continue downlding you clicked no, & then clicked always use that answer.

Hum this is a new bug, many users in the French forum tell me about it. I have never experienced it myself, but is seems new as end of december and it happens with LW 4.12.6 and 4.13.0. The downloads abort and disappear from the download window. You have to resume them from Library but it happens often. Also, all ongoing downloads are stopping at the same time, which is weird. I'll forward LW devs to this thread because they don't read French (most of all anyway ;)
