Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

I think people should report those perverts but still like I said make sure first that it in fact is someone "evil" and not some innocent person that has downloaded something of that nature by mistake.
If you did accidentally download it, wouldn't you delete such a file right away? And if deleted, you wouldn't be sharing it, correct?

I just accidentally downloaded a disturbing file and immediately deleted it from my computer. I deleted it so fast that I don't even know who it came from. Should I search for it again [feeling queasy] and report the person?

What about the people who upload their videos of some 18 yo model and claim she's 16? I could upload a video of god knows what and I know there's nothing illegal about it but just for my own stupidity I decide to fill in the description with every single sexual terminology I can think of. I know some hosts do that and not that it's really important or that I give a crap, I'm just curious how someone would handle that. Because if someone can upload a child porn and disguise it as a hollywood movie as someone has reported, and then someone opens that file still thinking it's a movie and it turns out they're watching child porn - oops! Is Big Brother gonna hunt them down?

How can you keep yourself safe?

Personally I can say yes, I would just delete it, but that is up to the person this happens to.

But maybe, I think like that because I'm a longtime user of P2P and the odds of me downloading KP of any network are slim to none. Dunno.

Use BitziWeb to check the files BEFORE downloading.

Download the larger sized files. .avi format is probably the best bet to get legit files on LimeWire

Googling the filename sometimes works if unsure

Most people today seem to give a great deal of thought to their personal choice without a great deal of thought to the responsibilities of that freedom or the choices...
1) If Person A is changing the names of files to imitate something more innocent, they are trying to force Person X to see at least SOME things that are not desired. So at least some of their free choice is being taken away unless they "fight back" with technology. 2) One person right to swing their arms stops at another persons face. Unless you have some pretty sophisticated software, you actually have to commit the acts depicted to record them. Child pornography is illegal in most nations (if not all). So some children are being forced into activities unnatural for their age. Is it right to turn your back on evidence of a crime because it is not something you would do or enjoy seeing. I guess you're right it is all personal choice. I think you probably care more than you believe.

As I've read, he rules are generally the same in most (if not all) countries. The people of the countries care. They are just ignorant of what goes on. Similar to a situation where a person may not know that their neighbor is moleting his kids. Also, official are paid off. Some children are taken. and you're right traditions are different. Parents in some countries sell their children into slavery to feed the rest if the family is in dire need. They are told that their children are household helpers (maids) to rich families. The children won't run away because of duty (and shame and a lack of resources). There will alway be a supply for demand. Stop the demand and you stop the supply.

I'm an avid fan of legal adult movies. And I get really frustrated when "inventive" people who share legal videos insert keywords like "keywords edited by policy" into the file names just to catch more attention (from perverts). There are many legal files with such illegal names. (e.g. "Paris Hilton keywords edited by policy porn.avi" which would obviously be Paris Hilton herself and legal)

But I'm scared to download the less obvious ones because 1) I don't want to get disgusted and feel bad for the rest of the day 2) I don't want the cops on my door.

And sometimes the opposite is true, files with innocent ("disney") or vague file names ("teen girl") are actually child porn (like the other members have said), or are on the border line (naked young girls eating bananas but not having intercourse --clever thugs cover their own backs through the loopholes of the definition of "child porn"). Imagine the scenario: I put a file on my download list, go to school, and come back to find out that the videos are illegal, and what's more, several people have downloaded it from me. All of a sudden, I'm a "kiddie porn host". Scary scenario. Brrrrrr..

It's frustrating to have to avoid lots of legal movies because of "inventive" people, and even more frustrating to come home to see that the download I had been waiting for turned out to be disgusting child porn (I prefer to call it "child abuse and brutalisation"; "porn" sounds too "soft" for that kind of disgrace)
I'm glad to hear that the cops are after those who have tons of them, and not those who download one or two files by mistake.

And as for the comrade who said "stop the demand and you stop the supply"... This may be a little off-topic, but I'd like to share my opinion.

I wish it were that easy. A kiddie porn gang got busted in my country, kudos to our cops. (One of the members was a woman; how pathetic is that!) They were selling their "work" in the form of video cassettes. Shooting child pornography is risky business (even in East Europe or Asia ) and the penalties are severe. It's simply not worth the risk if all you want to do is show it to everyone on the web; there has to be a financial gain to counterbalance the risk. This is why I believe that most of the child pornography we see on the P2P networks are simply copies of cassettes that were sold to perverts long time ago. They probably decided to "share" them (how compassionate!) once they get tired of m........... to them for months. You can think of the files as "end-of-season sale". So I think the trick is to bust the monsters (the big fish) and their paying customers, which would be accomplished through strong intelligence, and not through going after small-time perverts on the p2p networks. The networks should definitely be monitored, but the focus should be on the physical "flesh-and-bone" gangs like the gang in my country. Allocating the majority of resources to track down cyber-perverts (who are spectators) would be a heedless waste of tax dollars.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: I see that the keywords I typed were "edited by policy". I honestly didn't mean to break the rules, they were just an example. Sorry if I did anything wrong. Basically I was trying to say that there are people who insert child porn keywords into the file names of legal files.

Edit 2: Dear underage girls, please don't do online strip shows to your boyfriends. And never agree to have him tape you during intimate moments.
1) Boys (especially at that age) cannot be trusted with such confidential material, you'll end up getting broadcast over the web. Not even sueing them will reverse the damage once thousands of people (possibly including your family and schoolmates) see you engage in provocative acts.
2) You are motivating pedophiles and giving them moral grounds ("Man, those young b****es are already ripe and begging for it!" mentality)
Protect yourself.

Exclamation Innocently downloading child porn

Last night I was attempting to download some Family Guy cartoons and got a heap of porn in the search results. I used the filter and ran the search again. It blocked out most of the porn but a couple snuck through.
From what I have found most of the porn have fairly descriptive names so you'd have to be pretty unlucky to download a child porn movie inadvertantly.
If it does happen my advice would be to report it immediately to the authorities, They may not be able to catch the perpretrators BUT; There will be a record of your complaint and if, by chance the authorities detect a deleted child porn movie on your hard drive you will be covered.
I wonder, though. How would they know where to look?
They would have to have some reason to be searching through your hard drive for deleted images, wouldn't they?
My best advice is to avoid ALL porn completely, let's face it, it's all pretty tacky and puerile. Mostly harmless but totally unnecessary, like looking into the display window of a butcher shop really! Seen one you've seen them all and shouldn't we be directing our attention to more cerebral, productive forms of entertainment

In your dreams maybe. If that worked, the criminal paedophiles would call the FBI all day.

criminal pedophiles would have numerous such files, not one as the poster made a scenario for...

you in a particularly bad mood or w00t?

or perhaps you wish to see just how far you can go before banishment...?
