Default Downloading games, I need help!

I want to download a game. Let's say, as an example, w**ft 3. When I type it in the search I get a few results, I download a few. I open it, and extract the files. When I attempt to run it, I get an error message. HELP!

When I extract them, I try to run them, and I get a variety of messages depending on each one. For Wa**ft 3, I got a message saying that it could not be run because windows could not find a program to run it, and that it offered to search on the internet for something that could. I alos got another message at a different time, something saying that reinstalling the software may help.

I use windows xp. It's a .zip file that I download and i unzip it, making it a .exe I assume. It may have been a .org or something. Either way, can you walk me through a tipical game download? How would you do it, detailing each step from the first to last?

I usually just download the files into the same folder and then run the .exe or .zip file and it works ok.

In windows explorer goto the folder where you unzipped the files and just under the file name it should tell you what type of file it is. eg. RAR File, JPEG Image, etc... if it is an excutable it shouldnt say anything apart from just the name of the file.

Once the files have been extracted click on the executable file to start the installation program or the game itself. if there is no executable file either the game wasnt downloaded properly with all the nessesary files or you need additional software to run it.
