Default Lord ... help me please

i recently D L songs with acc ext. when you "hover" they have no info, just type & size. when i burn to cd & put back in my folders, if i hover over the same song all the info is there. (title, artist, album, etc) is that the id3 tag, or some part of it?

Default Incorrectly named files

Yeah, it drives me nuts too. I downloaded a track labelled "I hear you knocking" by Joe Walsh ? Thinking it was Joe doing a cover of the old Dave Edmonds song.
Doh!
It was and still is The old Dave Edmonds track, which some dork has incorrectly named. I can see how they made the error. Edmonds' voice sounds a bit like Joe and he is playing slide on the track.
It is pretty irritating though when you think you've discovered some rare version of an old song and it's just the same old song.
Renaming it won't change much, will it? Since there are probably millions of copies of the uncorrectly named tune all over the planet.

The only time I rename songs is when I'm researching album names for the songs/artists on WMP 10. Then, if WMP 10 comes across the songs/artists (as well as the albums) THEN I update the titles, but only in WMP 10. I don't mess with the original names in LW itself (unless I absolutely have to). So if I have (song title here) by (group name here) in my LW library, it will be listed EXACTLY as I downloaded it from LW.

It's important to double check if the info WMP comes up with is actually correct. When I used it, I came across wrongly titled filesuggestions from it. I think users contribute those as well, so mistakes can happen.

I'd like to put in my two cents here if I can...

Until there is some sort of ID3 tag format that is accepted world wide I think we are simply going to have to put up with mislabled files. Some friends of mine were forever changing the same file name until they discovered their files name were being overwritten every time they logged onto a now defunct music site.

When it comes to discs some companies don't give a hoot. I have discs that were pressed in the Netherlands, and the sleeve is made in the USA. Only thing thats a pain is that some of the tracks listed on the sleeve aren't on the discs( it's a compilation disc set - 3 ).

Somes files are mislabled by mistake. One hundred percent human error. Some mislabled on purpose. Anyone who downloads anything today is taking a risk. You can accept the risk or simply not download anything at all. What a lot of people are forgeting is that some of the things that can be downloaded are real treasures - be they programs, video, or songs. They may not be around for long. Proper file labeling will help in the long run, but in the short term mislabled files are here. Better learn to tolerate them. The only alternative is to ban the person sharing mislabled media.

because of the nature of the gnutella network, banning is not an option..

just remember, its for free....mislabled media files are merely annoying, but virii infested files are another (hence the strong advice to never download .exe files and such...)

You mean I'm not the only one who has noticed this? lol

My beef is with people who misspell easy artist names or song titles, or don't even bother doing a simple google search to see who recorded a song and what the actual song title is. Some mistakes lead me to believe there is a five year old at the other end lol
