Firewalls Can someone please tell me how to shut the firewall down that limewire is detecting on my computer? I shut the one of in my modem and all of the rest on my computer. I have been using limewire for awhile and jusy yesterday a error occured that siad I had to reinstall it. It took about 12 times for it to work. Today I tried to open it and got the same error. After reinstalling it, now there is a mysterious firewall being recognized. What to do??? |
See here for info: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357 Do the 6346 test. Make sure you configure your firewall for LW. Don't run 2 firewalls together as they'll interfere with each other. Check out the parts about UPnP. If your router uses UPnP, enable it within the device & also within LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'use UPnP, apply). |
Firewall Thats the problem. I shut the firewall completely off. Not running one at all. It still shows that limewire is detecting one. I've been on the phone with tech. support all day. Windows isn't on and neither is the one through my internet provider. |
The firewall might be within your modem/router. It's pretty common. Just get your firewall back on, configure it like the link said, find out if your router uses UPnP. If it does, enable it like I said in my last post. Try it. What have you got to lose? If, after half an hour or so, it doesn't help post back your setup: OS Firewalls LW & Java version (Help > about LW & it'll tell you) Connection type (dial-up, ADSL etc) Modem/router brand & model (very important) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing connection with another computer Is this your first try at using LW |
Firewall Ok, I called Motorola last night and they ran me through the process to see if it was on through my modem....it wasn't. It's a sbg900 wireless Surfboard Gateway. And no this isn't my first time using it. After using limewire for quite awhile, two days ago it jusy wouldn't let me on. It said to reinstall it. So I did. Honestly about 12 different times. Of course I went to add and remove each time...lol I'm not computer dumb. Then after successfully installing it, it said that I didn't have the Java Runtime I needed. So after installing four different runtimes by Java, it worked. For a day. Yesterday I went to open Lw back up, it said reinstall again. And I did. Now there is this nasty firewall problem. I have a desk top computer and a wireless laptop, Toshiba, which is where I do all my work......HELP!!!!!! |
