Empty zip files  I'm quite new to LimeWire so might be asking something that's been covered before or pretty obvious, but I would like to know anyway... Why do alot of downloads show a zip file, usually about 800K in size, that is empty when downloaded? Am I not doing something correctly or is this common and to be ignored? Many of these files have good quality reputations and a vast number of hosts! |
Be really careful with Zip files as many of them contain viruses... Check this thread out its all about viruses on the network.. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...id=41432.....;) |
Thanks for your prompt reply! So if I do a search for a particular program and all I get is a list of these zip files - nothing else - it means the program I'm after is not actually available. Is this right? I was looking for 'a certain program' listing and they are all these zip files!!!! |
Just watch your file sizes as explained in the virus thread and have a very good AV in use at all times always scan the file before you open it...... Also try not to mention the file names as its against the forums rules.... Good luck and be careful.....;) |
Oh and to answer your question there can be files out there that are perfectly fine, not all Zip files are crook (just alot of them)...;) |
Thanks for all that. And thanks for the 'other' tip. Should have thought of that. Consider my posting edited! :D :D :D :D |
Also I forgot to mention that the Bitzi web lookup is also a useful way of telling what a file contains... This thread will explain what and how to use it http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=37676 BTW thanks for the edit ;) |
