It must be a cd burner with a dvd rom. You should be able to burn VCD's. The links in this thread may help:http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...643#post180643

I think you need to be more specific about what you mean by 'burning movie'. Do you mean that you have downloaded an avi file and want to convert and burn it onto dvd to be played by a standalone dvd player or you just want to archive and burn the avi file(s) to dvd using your NTI software?

Also, if the NTI software comes bundled with your laptop, chances are that it is not the complete version and do not have the module that would support dvd movie burning. That's my experience with the bundled NTI software that came with my dvd burner.

You might need to upgrade to NTI CD&DVD Maker 7 from their web site here:
http://www.ntius.com/default.asp?p=cdmaker/cdmaker_main

But do note that NTI does not convert most of the avi formats (DivX, XviD, etc ) to DVD-Video format and will not burn disks that are playable on standalone dvd players. For that you would need other software like Super DVD Creator, WinAVI Video Converter, InterVideo DVDCopy 4 etc.

Talking Thanks for you quick reply

I dont have Nero, I have NTI Cd and DVD maker 7. Now my Cd's that I have are CD-R. Does that make a difference, will that still allow me to burn a movie. And you are right I figured it was a thingy with a dvd-rom. I am so sorry but I am kinda clueless. And I appreciate the help soooooo much!

Sorry but I've never burned a VCD so I'm not sure which is best but probably cd-r will work. Not all dvd players will play VCD, and sometimes it depends on what brand of cd-r your burning with whether it will play in your dvd player.

This site is loaded with info but it can be difficult to navigate: http://www.videohelp.com/vcd

I have a dvd burner and I use dvd+rw. They cost a little more but once i see a movie I don't save it I just record over top of it.

Hi there

My ACER lap top has the same software as yours and I have downloaded "DVDsanta" to convert & burn AVI files. It's nice and easy to use and so far has coped with everything. I use Verbatium -RW discs.

I can't get the NTI or Cyberlink to do much either !

The trial version is free.

I likewise use Verbatim RW disks for dvd for home use.

Nero 7 is very good, unless you'd prefer something free or cheap.

"If" you're burning VCD's, remember to burn them at minimum speed. VCD's are very sensitive about burn speed. Otherwise most dvd players that can play vcd's won't be able to play them if they're burnt at high speeds.

Something else to see Downloading Format for DVD's, where if you have one of the newer set top players, they can play data dvd's with mpeg4, divx/xvid. Or you choose divx format using your burner program (I use roxio) which converts them.
