REALLY weird Problems

Whenever I run Limewire it stays open for a while then closes...
Not only does it close but the .exe file disapears and a bunch of other files in the folder too... I have to reinstall it about once every 10 minutes...

And just then every file except one was gone from the folder. this is a really weird thing. Could it be a virus?

Mirome February 25th, 2006 08:50 PM

What's with the lack of reply? :(
Does no-one know?
or what's going on?

What spyware programs do you run?

If you run PestPatrol for example, then it will mistakenly consider FW has spyware & remove vital components of it. You may have another spyware program that has this same problem. What you need to do is either 1. put FW in the Exception list of what to ignore during scans. 2. Or uninstall that Spyware program & get a decent highly recommended by the spyware forum programs like 1. ad-ware (FREE), or AND 2. Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) (wise to use both!)

AOL security uses pestpatrol. And other services offer others, some already commented upon in this forum section that they don't work properly with p2p programs. The question is whether they work properly at all if they think p2p programs have spyware when they explicitly don't!

Never heard of it, and yes, it does look like you have an unwanted passenger on board.
Download this and run it, save the list it makes and post it here. Maybe we'll recognize your stowaway.

It's probably the Microsoft Antispyware, which is notorious
for false alarms and deleting perfectly good software like
LimeWire. Uninstall that thing and see if it happens again.

Mirome February 25th, 2006 10:53 PM

I closed it, MS Antispy that is... and reinstalled LW and the same thing happned.

If I'm on a network is it possible that perhaps something on an other computer would be doing this? I kind of fail when it comes to this kind of thing.

Do I really need to un-install it?

C:\Program Files\Windows XP1\everest.bin

This may be part of a monitoring package giving others on your local network the ability to watch what you are doing.

Where are you, that such a thing as others manipulating your computer could be possible?

…and yes, you do have to completely uninstall that Microsoft crapware to be fully free of it's ill effects. ;]

AaronWalkhouse February 26th, 2006 01:21 AM

Anyway, I can help you set yourself up to protect your own personal space and files.
Anybody trying to delete your stuff in the future wont be able to touch them or even look.
  • Open "My Computer" and go to "C:\Documents and Settings"
  • Right-click on the folder with your name on it and click on "Properties"
  • Go to the "Sharing" tab and put a checkmark here:
    http://www3.telus.net/public/walkhoub/privacy.PNG
  • Now install Limewire to a folder on your desktop instead of to "C:\Program Files"
