I wanted to find the owner of a song I downloaded off the free liimewire program, to find out where the song is from etc. Is there anyway of doing this?

um.... there must be something in the song that can make you guess at a title. If not take a line of lyrics and type them into google and you should come up with a song title ... to find the particular artist might be harder but a Limewire search will probably come up with a few versions and ... I'm assuming that you have obtained an in correctly labelled one you should be able to work out who the artist actually is . I have only failed in this on a couple of occasions.

Call ASCAP, BMI, or RIAA the should be able to tell you who is the owner (COPYRIGHT) holder.

I don't think this is what your looking for, but you want the owner or owners of the songs, guess what...
