Canada is a long way from middle earth & the international call rates would be enormous. Particularly since I don't live on this planet, I'm just visiting ... just passing thru. lol

It's not as difficult as you may think. 1st, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=52529 which is almost identical to Panther's firewall.

Next, look at the Universal Plug & play (UPnP) section of the link I gave in my last post. That will give you a clue to enable UPnP.

BTW as an OSX user, you don't really need your firewall active. I didn't have it active for a couple of years without issue. I since activate it now & then, but not necessarily all the time.

Spoke too soon, now if I restart the firewall Icon dosen't appear for a half hour, restart again, the same. If a restart fixes the problem, its got to be the computer not the router, am I correct?

Default Y E S ! ! !

Thank you so much Lord of the Rings...the brick wall is gone & the speed is back ! All I did, from what you suggested is :
remove the firewall under preferences. Only the family uses this Mac, so it was not needed.
peace !
Coline, in Calgary

coline3bettson good to hear.

jjrcom3 when you use LW, do you resume all your incomplete files simultaneously using the Resume/Find Sources function?

Do you have many incomplete files?

The reason I'm asking is doing this can put stress on both LW, your computer & router. It can affect the communication between your router & computer. I'd recommend only applying the Resume function to 1-3 files at a time. More effective to finding sources is searching the topic file again.

BTW if you're concerned about the UPnP & LW communicating with your router to open the port, perhaps manual port forwarding might solve the issue. This would mean the port will already be open within the router without communication b/w LW & the router necessary. Instructions here if you choose this option: Linksys BEFSR41-v3 manual port forwarding

Thanks Lord of the Rings, for some reason its been alright the last 20 hours. I'm reluctent to port forward because I have to change every computer(3) on the network, right. I have just reduced my download limit to 4, lets see what happens, thanks.

You would only need to port forward on the other computers if they also use LW. But if they do, they would need a different port to be port forwarded; ie: one port for each one that uses LW. eg: port 6346 for one, perhaps 42628 or something for the next, etc.
If more than one computer on the network is using LW at one time, then that may have some type of effect also. You might want to consider this patch if you use XP http://www.lvllord.de/
