![]() Hello I am new to computers and also new to posting messages. I am having trouble with limewire and wonder if anyone can help me. I have had limewire installed and working on computer which is windows xp. (my grandson loaded it on). Then I did a stupid thing of doing a restore on my computer and limewire went. I down loaded again and go it to desktop (shortcut) but when I double click to open it it won't do anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled about 10 times and made sure I cleared everything but still the same. I have read the posts but don't understand any of it. One post said to go into limewire tools but the program won't open for me to do this. I have java and gnutella on computer. Hopefully someone will take time to help in normal lanauage for me. would I have lost all of grandsons songs. (don't think he will be happy when he gets home from holidays) Thanking anyone in advanced. |

![]() Hey...another sandgroper ![]() Start off by following LOTR's advice in his first post here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ight=wont+open That is, delete your preferences folder first (remember, it's probably in a hidden folder so you'll have to show all hidden files & folders to see it). Then uninstall your Java & reinstall using the offline installer. All the info's there, just follow the links & take your time ![]() See if that helps. Otherwise, there are more steps you can take within that thread. |

![]() The songs will still be there. You just need to find where. Use the computer search function to look for Shared. Go to Start menu -> Search for files & folders & type in Shared or incomplete. Then click on the result & you'll find the downld folder. *** Make a note of the location just in case. *** Try reinstalling Java using the "Offline" installer. This is the one where you downld the installer to your computer instead of installing over the internet. Then install Java. Get it here Java 1.5 (take the JRE) Now try to open LimeWire (LW). If it doesn't open, then delete the LW preferences. See the instructions here as there's a sample image at the bottom of the page of how to do it; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.) Then try to re-open LW. It should open now. But you'll have to ensure the download location is the same as before. Go to the LW Library window & look in Shared. If there's files listed then that's fine. If not, go to LW's menu bar & find the menu called Tools, then look at the saving option. Change it to the location you found when you found the location in the 1st step above. Wow I must be a slow typer. Where did birdy come from? lol ![]() ![]() |

![]() thank you for the information that i received. I download java again in offline mode and reinstalled. imagine my heart rate when limeline started to load. got it open and then it disappeared. tried again then it disappeared again. I did the lw preference folder thing but still just loads up, excites me, then disappears. (shouldn't do that to the oldies, we could have heart failure). What am I doing wrong. Silly thing as it use to work really well. If i updated to pro would I still get this problem. One other thing that I didn't understand was when it was asking what connection, modem, cable t1 or t3 and higher i went moden. I am on broadband adsl. did i pick the right one. Oh dear I think this oldie should stick to knitting. |

![]() Try reinstalling LimeWire using it's offline installer, you'll find a link here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=50931 Depending on what broadband speed you have, you can go modem or cable/dsl. Probably cable/dsl. You can change these settings at any time, just make sure to 'apply' after changes. Getting Pro won't help with these set up problems, sorry. |

![]() ![]() thank you for your suggestion. I reloaded lw but still having the same problem of the program won't stay open. when it does after about 8 attempts to open it it works perfect. Would there be a conflict with another program after I did a restore. |

![]() Ratahi & Birdy At a guess, AOL's anti-spyware will auto delete LW's exe file and so cause the problem (loading and vanishing) that Ratahi's is experiencing. The answer is to disable AOL's anti-spyware offering. Hope this helps. UK Bob |
