Spyware?

Hi, I found on the web that the newest version of Limewire contains spyware. But I heard that version 4.9.28 is clean. Is the above true? If so, where can I find an installer for version 4.9.28?

As long as you download LW from www.limewire.com it will not contain any malware at all:)

This article has a bit of info

For your own peace of mind, use the search (top, next to quick links) to look for "spyware in LimeWire" or similar. You'll find heaps of old threads which discuss this topic:)

but the above link... Is it false?

I'd assume not but I can't be 100% certain:)
Where did you read that LW's later versions have spyware? Are you sure that what you read there was true?

I've used LW since 4.0.8 & have never had a prob with malware. You'll have to make up your own mind as to whether you want to use it;) Just make sure that if you do use LW, you get it only from the official site (in my first post). Then, you'll be guaranteed a clean version.

Maybe you should have clicked on the links in the link you provided and you would be a little better informed about false positives. The link below came from the link you provided. Also your link says reported to have spyware, I or you can report any thing as having spy ware. They do not list what spy ware it has nor can they because there is none. There was a version that had add ware along time ago version 3.X but LimeWire does not contain spy ware.

Oops... didn't even look at hangsterthemonster's link. Thought he was just reposting the link I gave:(

It's too early to be thinking.

LimeWire is 100% Spyware Free! I have the newest version, the beta 4.11 and I have never encountered any spyware, not even for the past versions. Anyway, yeah, always get products from their official site.

If your spyware detects LW as having spyware then it is a false-positive. The answer is to put LW on the exceptions list. And no, LW does not have spyware. I've had discussions with the owner/admin of the spyware forums ... & that's a good place to find reports of decent spywares or bad reports. Their main 2 recommendations are 1. ad-ware (FREE), & also this one 2. Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE)

We did have a discussion over one they recommended but which gave false-positives to both LW & another p2p program due to it not being properly configured for p2p use.

Wow...

I didn't know people went as far as you did, "Lord of the Rings"!!! Thanks for your info, I feel relieved now...

P.S. I have both Ad-Aware and Spybot, thanks for telling me though..
