Default does www.limewire.com actually exits?

i can never connect to www.limewire.com -- it's as if there is no such server so far as my browser is conerned. what's going on there?

also (i'll post this q elsewhere soon properly, and after having looked at limewire.com first if pos) "could not move to library" in lw 4.2.6 in os x. i've been using that version for some time and never seen "could not move to library" before. now within the space of about three days i see it twice. after it has occured downloads.dat a downloads.bak are gone, rendering all my partial downloads useless: hours of dowloading time wasted -- something lw's good at doing. does anyone know what's going on with that?

thanks

put it this way: does clicking on this link www.limewire.com result in a web page or a server not found message for you?

any confirmation one way or the other would be appreciated.

thanks.

thanks for the reply.

i could access those site you linked to.

i have now sussed out what was wrong. i was using a kind of ad blocking file -- a whole load of addresses in the /private/etc/hosts file. for some reason www.limewire.com was in that list. i've removed it from that file and can now access limewire.com

thanks.

it was in the /private/etc/hosts file. you can put stuff in that file like:

127.0.0.1 0190-dialer.com
127.0.0.1 08.185.87.0.liveadvert.com
...

any address you don't want to ever connect to you put:

127.0.0.1 www.whatever.com

and then any attempted connections in your browser and maybe other software to www.whatever.com result in file not found -- i think it's something to do with the dns name resolving -- it can't get the right ip address -- i think the hosts file overrides dns name searches. something like that.

where did i get the list of data to put in that file? i think is what you might be asking - i got my list which contained limewire.com from a web page that explained how to modify your hosts file -- they had a hosts file made up for you with loads of common ad sites in, and obviously for some reason had limewire.com in. can't remember what site that was - it was a fairly amaturish one. i do remember that the host file was removed from their site, so isn't even available on there anymore.
