how do i stop the little box popping up when i'm perusing the results of my search?

Do you mean the license warning box? Tools > options > searching > basic. Untick 'show license warning' & apply.

Just make sure you haven't chosen the option of never downloading a file without a license

thanks for your swift reply. not license warning. it's got name of artist, genre, duration, bit-rate etc. those little boxes that you gey when your cursor hovers over something for a second or two in any programme. The name has just come to me, it's called helptext, isn't it? sometimes it helps.
At the moment i think it's just irritating.

Right click on the column header > more options > untick 'extended tooltips'.
