134.4 kb major irritant For over the last year on every search I do I get a find that is always the name I have searched for with the file size 134.4. The # is always between 11 and 16. I block it every time but it comes back as a different IP. I even do it when the search is still going on and it will come up again with a differnt IP. I made the mistake of letting a friend do a search for a particular song on my laptop when I was gone and he did not know and opened it in couple of searchs before he figured it out. Anybody know a way to block a file size? ****, anybody know anyway to fix this? |

You can try using the junk filter. It takes a little while for it to 'learn' what's really junk (sometimes it will mark good files as junk - then you'll have to mark them as 'not junk'). Confused yet? There's a lot of info here Junk Filter |

I have put the IP address in the banned filter - makes no differnce - they come up with a new IP in every music search I do. I have even filtered it and trashed it during a song search and it will show up again in the same search with a new IP. The IP's do not have standard with thier address. There are more that start with 65-69.*.*.*., the rest are all over the place. |

Before I start this post, let me stress that I abhor all forms of computer viruses and malware. Nevertheless, I'm sure to get some slagging from some shallow minded people who can't be bothered to read all of this posting or think things through before pronouncing judgement. Here goes: I find this 134.4 KB file to be extremely irritating. So why don't we set out to rid ourselves of it? How? I hear you ask. Fight fire with fire, I say. Couldn't someone construct a small utility file (which, I suppose, would behave in the same way as a computer virus) that would search out all those bogus files that are 134.4 KB long and destroy them? Before all the moralists come down on me like a ton of bricks, the medical profession isn't frightened to use such a strategy, look at anti-biotics. Then there's the washing powder manufacturers - biological cleaning. I could search out many more examples but I'm sure you all get my point. Let's admit that there's a war going on; us (the good guys) versus them (the spoilers). Take off the gloves and let battle commence. |

A fair point, Sleepless. And this question must have been asked countless times throughout history by the people who invented any new weapon. I know the invention of the atomic bomb caused many people, notably Albert Einstein, much angst and soul searching. But the other question I would pose is: What happens if we don't do anything to defend ourselves? Will these people stop creating viruses and malware? History teaches us that they do not. Your seeming reluctance to adopt an effective response to the poisoners is, I would say, their greatest weapon against us. This is a classic scenario which has been picked up again and again by novelists and movie makers. The nice guy refuses to descend to the bad guy's level, turning the other cheek and hoping the evil-doer will go away. Eventually, the penny drops. The bad guys will not simply go away, they must be attacked with their own weapons. What I just described is the plot of Shane, High Noon, The Magnificent Seven and all those Charles Bronson movies the names of which escape me at the moment. And, do you remember how good it felt, how the cinema audience cheered when the hero pulled his gunbelt from under the bed and strapped it on? Now he was going to do what he knew he should have done at the start...fight fire with fire. He who turns the other cheek only gets another slap. Anyway, it's not as if we're teaching them anything new, is it? They already know how to create viruses and malware. They are doing it now, while we debate the nicities of the matter. |
