Default Hugely annoying Limewire problems - Please help!

G'day all,

A few months ago I installed Limewire, and it ran like a charm for about 2 months.

Then, it started a problem its had ever since: Restarting itself. at completely random intervals, even in the middle of a download, it restarts itself! Closes itself out and starts up a new one. This leads to multiple Limewire icons in my tray that dont go away unless I wave my mouse over them.

This problem makes it virtually impossible to download large files with lines since I usually get up to 3rd or 4th in line, and it restarts, and bumps me back to the end. And, if I close limewire, it will pop up again completely unbidden.

So, I decided, I will UNINSTALL it, right? So, I uninstall it, and now I get a message saying:

"One or more files appear to be invalid, this could be caused by a corrupted installation. We suggest you re-install limewire and try again. If the problem persists, send the following email to bugs@limewire.net" and it has a big block of jibberish that when I hit "copy report" it doesnt copy. And, it has the same problem as limewire: It pops up again within seconds of being closed!

So, I re-installed Limewire and... It has the same restarting problem! Uninstalled it and I get the same message.

This is becoming a MAJOR hassle for me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanx,

Zandur

Probably a virus. See this thread, part 4. WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

There's a link at the bottom of that thread for NorbiesWorld, You can get free computer help at his site. Good luck.

Well, thanx. That explains why I couldnt bring up task manager.

Unfortunetly, with my normal lack of computer literacy, I have no idea what the crap is going on at Norbies World, nor how to get rid of the worm.

Well, my computer will be re-formatted soon. When it is, I wont re-install limewire, nor any other P2P program

PS A pity I do not know where the guy who wrote the Alcra virus lives... One things for sure, if I did, you would soon be reading reports of a grisly corpse strung between several trees >_<

its not limewires fault its a person who only cares about messing up computers. just watch what your downloading. you can scan files with bitzi and scan the file for viruses before you open it.so next time you will be prepared

I ran an ad-aware virus-scan and killed two virusi named "Alcan.p2p", but presumably these werent the virusi effecting Limewire.

The problem is Garbagefan is that without practically a walkthrough I cant figure any of this stuff out!

Also, when I try to install Limewire, it says a previous version is running, but I can find no previous version!

OK, Re-Installed after running ad-aware... and nothing. The Alcan worm was something else invovled with P2P.

So yes, I think I will just bear with it until the computer can get re-formatted and not re-install Limewire A pity I cant get the damn files I downloaded limewire for in the first place for thanx to Mr. Alcra here...

Zander man listen up u seem awfull flustered and ur not listning to the advice uv been given. Reformatting is not neccassary. When 6 pac said to go to norbies he didnt mean click the link have a quick jiffy and you will suddenly be able to relieve urself of alcra. What he meant was join norbies and post a hijack this record in the trojans and viruses section as per norbies forum rules and he will sort it out for you in a matter of a few posts. You dont need any technical knoledge to follow the simple instuctions norbie will give you. As for using ad adware that is a spyware remover not a anti virus and while you may be getting good news off it saying it has deleted the virus im 99% sure it hasnt removed all of it. Also please try and remember that limewire didnt give you alcra its the dodgy files you downloaded that did that when ur problem is fixed by norbie redownload limewire and you will have full control of it. Make sure you have suitable anti virus installed b4 downloading anything i recomend avast 4 home edition at http://www.avast.com/ its free. Then before you download anything on limewire check the file with bitzi 1st if bitzi doesnt have good comments dont download it. In order to use bitzi right click the file on the search screen scroll down to advanced and slide right onto look up file wiv bitzi easy and you should remain virus free. l8z

Heh, thanx, Daydo.

Ah well, i'll give it a try. And I wasnt reformatting my computer because of this - my computer needs a reformatting anyway :P I havnt kept all that good care of it the past 2 years, as you can probably tell.

Anyway, I will see what I can do over the next few days.
