Angry Win 32 trojans and virus

P2P seems like a great thing however I am finding that a large volume of software on Limewire is infected and therefore totally useless.

I am using AVG virus checker and Zonelabs as well as Microsofts virus program.

The number of errors I have found >70% of downloads makes me wonder if this is a real warning or an incorrect call by the virus checker. The Win32virus/trojan type varies so this seems unlikely.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

yeah alot of the software has viruses. its probably really infected, although sometimes some of the virus programs pick up things that really aren't anything to be concerned about.

but..... what do you expect for free? lol

Last count (music and images exempted) there are far more than 70% of files listed that are corrupt. The percentage is growing. Last three times I did a search for a program out of 200-300 hits and average of 3 were not corrupted files. That is 1% non corrupt. Don't become too optimistic because of that 1% too often the files are either out of date useless or labeled incorrectly. Beware any listing that shows 851.7kb for it' size is corrupt...no exceptions!!!!!! Defy it at your own risk, 228kb appears to be another size signaling corruption. The only salvation currently is the Bitzi...but that requires an honest effort from a lot of people to assure accuracy. It's a shame that so useful a tool seems to be the only lifeblood for those who take joy in bringing down a system. The mindset of purposeful destruction escapes my ability to understand. We should put their genius together for a different purpose...DRAFT them into the service and ship them to IRAQ.

Why not add an option to filter out these specific file sizes? Easy for a non-programmer to say I guess. If it could be done though, it would be a nice fix.

Default Filters Needed

Great idea just has to be suggested and accepted by the manufacturers who provide the platforms we use. If everyone wrote their software manufacturer and suggested it I am sure they would program the filter/feature in. Any success takes constant feedback, whether to the manufacturer to improve the product, or through forums such as this or independent sources like Bitzi. What would be really nice is if some of these lonely people would grow up someday and do something productive instead.

Limewire has basically become totally useless to download music due to fake files. Total waste of time. Are there any out there that are still worth using?

The problem is not LW itself, it's the people offering files to share on the Gnutella Network (or better to say, the music industry, etc....).
Whatever client you'll use (P2P Gnutella Network client), you'll find the same faked files. But with using the file filters and the "Look up with Bitzi" function you will gradually reduce the amount of faked files showing up in your search results.
How to use Bitzi

How to use keyword filter
