Stop The Confusion of Bit/Byte I have become so frustrated at the fact that there are very few people who don't have a clue between the difference of the bit and byte. And guess what. THEY SHOULD BE! It is absolutely ridiculous to have files labeled with MB or Mega Bytes but have internet speed labeled with Mb or Mega bits. Why can't files and internet both be labeled the same exact way. That way the average joe doesn't have to worry about converting bits to Bytes to figure out an ETA for how long it will take for a file to download. Honestly it can't be that hard to start saying things like "I get 1 MB download and 96 KB upload. Instead of saying "I get 8 Mb download and 768 Kb upload". It would simplify everything. Now for those who don't know the difference here's a little example.
1 Byte = 8 bits; Therefore if you want to find out how long it will take to download a file that is say 5 MB and you have a connection speed of 8 Mb download like me you divide 8 by 8 which equals 1 MB download. Then you simply divide 5 by 1 which equals 5. Therefore it would take 5 seconds to download a 5 MB file if you have a 1 MB download speed. Seem simple enough? If it doesn't then don't worry about it because you shouldn't need to convert from one to the other in the first place. This is not math class! If anyone has any opinons I would appreciate it.
