LW vs. other Gnu applications Hi, What is it that makes LW find more files than any other Gnu app? I look for .avi files using LW (searching by name, btw), and I find X number of files. Using any other Gnutella app, I cannot find those same files, or anywhere near the same number of hits. This has been so for more than 2 years I've been using Gnu apps, regardless of ports, time of day, version of the apps, or any other variable I can identify. This has been my repeatable and consistent experience. I've tried other apps but keep coming -- reluctantly -- back to LW. It's a dog on my old computer, but I see no other choice. Why is LW so much better at accessing files? Don't all Gnu apps have the same access to the distributed data base of p2p files? Thanks, dave Mac OS 10.3.9 LW Pro 4.11.0 |

I too think that Limewire brings up more searchresults. I have tried Shareaza and Phex as well. By this I don't mean the 20000 bogus results that show up when searching (e.g. The title of a new movie) :D Could this have something maybe to do with having enabled OOB searching in the options, which BTW I find very useful. Even if no host has the whole file close enough for me to download, several might be downloading it as we speak and I get the download from them while waiting for them to get the full file. Off course a question of trial and error. Some I never get more than maybe 50%, but still... |
