Default Video Format and settings

I have been downloading AVI files that are around 350MB for an 50 Minute show. When I create a AVI file, I end up with a 1 to 3GB file. Is there a general setting to create a file and keep the quality or a Codec I should use? I want to share some of my files if I can get them to this 350MB file size for people to download.

Why not share them as they are? Reconverting them will only result in loss of quality.

I would except I have been impressed with the images I see at 350MB and the download times would load up my system. I prefer to try and compress. If the videos were high definition, I would not bat an eye.

Videos ... like music & pictures ... re-saving into lossy formats means loss of quality enjoyment. It's like taking a digital photo, saving it as a quality 3 or 4 JPG. Then opening that JPG file & saving it at the same quality setting. Open it & look at the image & tell us how it compares to the original. You'd find artifacts introduced into the image, blurring, loss of clarity of original colours, loss of definition, etc. The same applies if you save an mp3 as another mp3. The loss of course for music is the audio attributes such as colour, frequency range & balance, etc. - Like taking a cheap b/w photocopy lol Just IMHO

BTW some people share movies as 2 or 3 x 600 to 800 MB files.
