It is possible, well not fined but sued for distributing copyright material

There are ways to protect yourself from these things happening, but still not guaranteed.

This site has filtering software called PeerGuaurdian2 to download for free. It will keep well known anti P2P IP's from entering your system

http://phoenixlabs.org

Don't share too many files at a time

Also don't stay connected 24 hours a day

Also search the forum for other ways. Use the search option (words like Legal Illegal RIAA MPAA)

I must say great attitude towards P2P

I know. Let's just all stop sharing files. Tell all your friends to stop as well. Then they tell their friends, and they tell their friends and so on.

Then everyone can start wondering where have all the files gone

Requiring people to share is much worse than not sharing at all. The main
reason "anti-leeching" features were abandoned years ago is because it would
have inevitably resulted in thousands of people "sharing" millions of junk files just
to avoid being arbitrarily cut off by selfish people.

Let people share what they want, when they want, or not at all if they
choose. That freedom has resulted in what we have today, the strongest P2P
network with the greatest variety of files.

Still no reason for Trevor57 to go telling people to not share

Would think that people can decide that on their own

And BTW people are sharing lots and lots of junk files allready. And by that I don't mean spam or viruses, just really crappy encodes that should not be on the network

When that feature was first introduced we immediately got a flood of people
sharing whole folders of DLLs and other junk from Windows or various large
programs. They never went away after that but fortunately the open sharing
nature of gnutella prevailed. Because ratios and other forms of trading
selfishness were never really pursued the amount of junk sharing leveled off.

Default peer to peer sharing

I have just read about the kazaa legal problems, and have something to think about... should limewire get into the legal action, would they try to pass the cost of said settlement on to the the people who use the service? I've paid the fee for the program, would they charge us twice? What about the people who recieved the program free, Will this be the end of frostwire and limewire basic?
