![]() Hi, I'm looking at upgrading to a Pro account, but also recently heard that Limewire's being sued by the music industry, and will probably go the same way as Napster, so I understandably don't want to spend any money on a service that could die. In paying money out for Pro, does it mean that the downloads are legal, and will therefore not be affected by rumours about being sued, if they are true? |

![]() Limewire is being sued by the riaa but, but I haven't heard/read much else about it. If LW fights it, the lawsuit will probably drag on for a while. Even if they shut down LimeWire LLC, the programs that everyone has on their computers will still work. There isn't a central server to shut down. Each computer acts as a server. Just keep a copy of the LW installer somewhere on you computer when you ugrade to the next release. Just in case they would write something into a future release. I think buying Pro is money well spent. I have Pro and plan to continue purchasing it. If LW does go south, then try FrostWire. Read about at the FrostWire Forum.

![]() Becca: Having Pro does not make downloading copyright material any more legal. Many people however are feeling that a pro purchase is a good way to show support for Limewire. Some, including me, say it works better than basic, and some don't, but if you buy Pro now, you will be able to keep it, provided you save a copy safely, for as long as you like. (computer crashes have a way of wiping out your precious files and programmes, and you should always back your valuable data up regularly.) Just to emphasise what 6pac said, Napsters problem was that it worked from a central server. Gnutella/Limewire do not, so will not go quite the same way as Napster what ever happens. The latest Limewire information available about the case can be found at http://www.limewire.org/blog/ |
