These files play on Quick Time. They will also play on vlc, which is an excellent open source player available from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

They can also be converted to avi if you wish. Google .mov for lots more information

I'd be wary of .mov files though, they tend to be used a lot by porn spammers. Use the tips listed here for videos: Movie download issues

Default Mov files

As LOTR said, a lot of .mov files on the P2P network are put there by porn spammers and contains code that will open your browser and take you to a porn site.

I only download .mov files from approved movie sites where you can get extended clips of the latest films, sometimes I can even download an entire short film such as "The Death of Batman".

Anyway, good hunting.

I filtered out mov files, next thing you know you get 25 windows opening up and no movie as was the case with "atv crashes into car" or something like that.... no more mov results for me.

QuickTime Movie files can use “text tracks. Assholes use this feature to plant malicious JavaScript code. QuickTime player from version 3, up to the latest version.

I had doubted that they were true Quicktime videos though. Since Quicktime itself cannot play those .mov files that are spammed, but players like VLC or MPlayer can. I guessed it was a windows video format that simply used the same file extension.

The QuickTime .mov format is a containor format. The actual format inside could be anything. Similar concept to AVI.

Ignoring .mov files less than 150 MB is very wise though.
