If you mean the thread, you should know that Limewire had only the "free" version as I created this thread. Morgwen |
whatever, as long as it's free to compile the AD-FREE source code |
I block the banners here with my Hosts file. Why run extra progs when I can filter everything out with an innocuous text file? Proxomitron does work well though, I have used it. I just hate ads. So thank heaven for open source, eh? 8.50 really isn't bad though. It seems a decent alternative for those who can't figure out how to compile the source :) |

9.50 now? Wasn't it 6 just a while ago? They are getting into the area where I think they may find themselves in trouble. If they start charging enough for it, I imagine much less people will pay. 6 seemed reasonable to me, and 8.50, and even 9.50 too, but I imagine many more people would pay 6 than 10, if it gets up there. They would know before I would though, since they know how many people have actually paid. Time will tell. |
No Spyware, No Adware, just ask for donations. Is it that hard? I sick of having to close a pop-up window practically everytime I use a peer-to-peer file sharing program. They're not only annoying, but some can actually plant Spyware on you PC. Not to mention browser hijacking. So clean this up!!! |
paying for limewire to morgwen............ as I said paying 8.50 or even 9.50 is not that much for something worth it if you dont want the add ins that come with the free vesion { which i used for about 30 days to try it out } i just started using in jan 02 and have found it very good and you dont have to be rich to pay for it ..... i will be a fan for life for the info in the forum alone its worth it............ |
This is Critical to Limewires Future One thing that protects a P2P organization is that you can't pinpoint a place of ownership. I am not sure how safe Limewire is now with the staff doing maintence. But now, if you start doing other administrative activities such as collecting fees, you are establishing a location that can be attacked and can be associated to certain people, and may well provide the means to associate hundreds of other individuals. Nowdays, with our automation, a plantif need not stop because of such numbers of people, everyone could be included in actions. So members take note, what is decided here impacts your security, which would give you cause to assess your membership/participation depending upon the decisions made and assurances provided from Limewire. Of course even now you have the issue of where does the income from the ADs go. A trackable item. Let's be clear, your not going to convince anyone that the only thing that goes on with this P2P is people sharing files they own themselves, where there is not License issues or copywright issues. And even if Limewire has a contract that says "We are giving you this Knife but it's your issue if you use it to cut anything" isn't going to protect them either. It hasn't protected others. So LineWire would do well to assess there situation now and in the future depending upon any decision they make. I'm sure they have. I'm surprised they are not sharing more about all that so of things I have covered. After all it impacts every participant of Limewire. I just see a central server for "The Business" forming. And that ain't good for a P2P. |
