Default Viruses

Why do practically all program files have viruses on them

Does anybody check them?

I find it disgusting that it is so prevalent and nothing is done about it

You should not offer programs to download if they contain viruses especially if you pay for the turbo version of Limewire

Disgruntled Customer Kebabhead

First of all, you should learn something about the P2P network before venting your spleen and that is when you download you are downloading from other PC users like your self. There is no central server, no central authority and no one that can or cannot tell PC users what files they should or should not share. Simply put, would you like someone coming into your home and telling you what you could or could not do with your computer?

So you see, the only regulation on this network is self-regulation and to gain enough experience so that you can recognise bad or dubious files when they are offered for downloading.

Secondly, I am, like you, a LW customer and have been such for over 2 years now. I have learned to protect my PC from various malcontents that produce malware (viruses, spyware, keyloggers, etc.) and can enjoy using the P2P network. But it will take a bit of time and a willingness to learn about the environment you have bought into simply because this network can be far more dangerous than just surfing the internet.

PS. If you want a governed server to download from then you should visit Amazon.com (or similar web-sites).

sounds like you may have a crack version of limewire. never heard of turbo version. there is a basic version which is free and a paid version called pro. someone correct me if i'm wrong but it sounds like that could be some of your problem

Yes, I have Been Using Limewire For A LONG TIME NOW and after you use it for a while You get to know the Virus Files By Size,Something to remember as MY rule of thumb is MOST ALL PROGRAMS are going to be Larger that 851mb
I usually will not download a PROGRAM file unless the size is ATLEAST 4 digits long. Most(and note I siad MOST)of the virus files are between 150 and 851 kb in size

Be very careful when downloading programs and packed files. Not all users are nice people. Some put nasty stuff into zip/rar files that are bigger than 1 MB and look legit. A friend of mine got infected by such a file a few months back.

The file said it was some kind of poker ebook + some other things, but when he opened the zip file and clicked on this one pdf file, it was not really a pdf file but a nasty program that infected his PC with Look2Me spyware and browser highjacker and some other nasties. It wasn't easy to get rid of either.

He has been using Limewire for years and knows the common filesizes, autogenerated spam and such. He said that everything pointed to this file being legit prior to opening it.

I really cannot agree that zip/rar files look legitimate; you see my personal policy is to stay away from any form of zipped file on the P2P network. I only ever download such files from their manufacturer’s web site, when I want an applet for a special job.

I guess I am just extra cautious.

This zip file was like something a program cracker would put together.

You know the works. Two pdf books, a program, a notepad containing a serial. Everything poker related.

So I don't blame you at all for being a bit over cautious. No matter how legit it looks it might not be
