Hi, i've only been using limewire for a week or so & I've managed to burn a few DVD's with no probs.... until now.
I use nero 6, and the video file is .avi Xvid. (This is the same codec and file type as I have previously burned with no problems)
The problem being is that whilst the video plays fine on my computer, when I transcoded and burned to DVD and played it on my home DVD the audio is screwed up and sounds like very garbled electronic noise
Does anyone know what has caused this problem & how to rectify it?

What audio & video encoding settings did you use? ie: average & maximum bit rates.
Did you use PCM or Dolby stereo AC3 audio?

Erm... soz bit new to this.... not sure if you mean on nero or Xvid...I haven't cofigured Xvid as I only downloaded recently and figured as long as it played fine on my PC it would be OK???
If you mean on Nero then I didn't realise there were such settings, or for that matter what they do.
Sorry for being so thick but I guess we all gotta start sumwhere!

Also... if its relative, I used nero vision express which transcoded the video file for me.

I haven't tried the new Nero so I don't know what options it has. But with Roxio, I have options for encoding both the audio & video. ie: Nero will re-encode the video during the burning process. I would recommend to always use dolby surround stereo audio, & keep your maximum video bit rate at 8 or below. If too high an overall bitrate (video & audio bit rates combined) then many dvd set-top players will struggle to play them properly.

Are you using Nero 6 or 7?

Check your burner options. Once you added the video file to it, there should be advanced settings hidden away somewhere.

This could be codec related

What player does the video play fine with?

If it's VLC Player then Nero won't be able to use those

Ah... i've just realise that Nero (6) does have these setting hidden away and i was always a bit afraid to tinker with em so I had it on Automatic (default) transcoder quality. The automatic settings are..."fast encoding-1pass" (or I could have chose "High Quality 2-pass VBR)"...
and audio was set to automatic but there are the options of "Dolby digital (AC - 3) 2.0" or "stereo".
Which is most suitable?

Also, as for bit rate I can't alter these whilst the quality and sample rate is set on automatic. Don't even know what progressive and interlaced (top field first), interlaced (bottom field first) means... is that of importance

Always use Dolby stereo. The files you downld will always be in stereo.

2 pass is much better than 1 pass but takes twice as long.

Ok with Nero 6, it's divx codecs might not be as good as nero 7's, due to the newer version divx codecs, & other added codecs including audio. But I might be wrong.

Leave interlaced at default. Depends whether you're using ntsc or pal, video source also is related (eg: from a cam.)
That's more of a ntsc issue. I use pal where I am.

Sleepless will prolly know "much" more about burning with nero than me. I don't often burn videos I've downlded. I burn full quality vids.

Also, i'm using PAL, and video source is downloaded from limewire... originally a camera recording.
I can't understand it as all the reviews on bitzi are good for this particular vid and there are a lot of reviews/inputs with no reports of problems.
The video is pristine but the sound is inaudible!
I think I may give up on this one!
Also not sure what you mean by "leave interlaced at default"
Also transcoding quality settings are can be set to custom in which i can alter the bit rate which is in kb/s... i'm pretty sure the auto settings for this vid chose, long play - 3382kb/s.
