Default Mac Limewire playsts vs PC playlists

I use Limewire on my Mac, and it works just fine. I installed it on my PC to troubleshoot an issue a friend of mind is having, and I don't have the answers.

On my Mac I have a "Limewire" playlist. I can grab a song from there and drag it in to any playlist, and the all show up in my Library.

On my PV I have an "Administrators Limewire" playlist, and I can see the music I downloaded from Limewire, but I can't do anything with them. I can't edit the "Info", I can't drag the songs to another playlist, and the Limewire songs don't show up in my Library.

This almost seems like a permissions issue, but I don't think it is. Can someone help me out with this?

TIA

The LimeWire playlist in iTunes right? You didn't mention iTunes but I'm guessing this is what you're talking about. This playlist simply reflects what's in the LW downld folder. It can be played but not burnt or copied.

If you're refering to playlists saved via the LW media player, then that can work in iTunes or any other player that supports that type of playlist format. But playlist files only work if the original files are still in their original location. Since a playlist is simply a pointer; it points the player to where the songs are.

Yes, I'm speaking of iTunes. (sorry)

The characteristics between Mac & PC are very different with Limewire.
On the Mac I have the LW playlist, and all of the music on that playlist is in the library, and I can drag the music to any playlist I want.

On the PC the music in the LW playlist isn't in the library even though I copied the songs to that folder.

I am having the same problem, I think.

On my Mac at work I have a regular iTunes playlist with no restrictions (why would anyone would use the LimeWire player...). I set LimeWire to download to my iTunes folder. LimeWire automatically creates a playlist and the mp3s are automatically imported to my iTunes library when they go into that playlist. Once the mp3s hit that playlist, iTunes imports them and organizes it for me.

The only thing I have on my PC at home is the iTunes Shared LimeWire Tunes. There is no control over the info (name, artist, etc.). The more I think about it, the more it sounds like LimeWire doesn't want you to have control...

Never Mind...

I guess I should have searched a little further.

The auto importing of songs by iTunes from LW on a mac & the LW playlist on iTunes are 2 different things. iTunes will import the songs whether you have the LW playlist option enabled in iTunes or not.

Well, everything aside, I think that there might be a glitch with my LW because there is no LW playlist in my iTunes. There's only a shared LW Tunes folder. I know how to activate and deactivate the shared folder, but there's no option for the activation of a playlist.

That "is" a playlist. It simply reflects the files you have downloaded. For windows users it would mean the files are only in their download folder & not in the iTunes library. But since Mac LW has the option to automatically import them, you end up with 2 copies. The LW playlist in iTunes is whatever you want to name it. Check your LW prefs > iTunes > Sharing & the name of the folder listed. You can change it. But you might need to relaunch iTunes & possibly also LW before you would see the change of the playlist name.

So, I'm SOL when it comes to manipulating the info...

I'm not sure I understand the whole "2 copies" comment. As stated earlier, I have a Mac at work and I don't have that problem.

When you download a song, you have one copy in your LW download folder. Also when you have downloaded a song, iTunes automatically "copies" it to its own music library. So thus you end up with 2 copies. iTunes doesn't move it, it copies it. So with the original copy in your LW download folder, the iTunes LW playlist simply reflects this. Unless your download folder "is" iTunes music folder.

Oh, yeah. That's what I've done. My downloads folder and iTunes folder are the same.

Do you have any idea why LW would offer the iTunes import for one platform and not the other? Kinda annoying.

Would this be a good suggestion in the Requested Features thread?
